ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Reporting directly to the OPWDD Operations Director, the Assistant Director has the responsibility of adequately overseeing the OPWDD Division at Rise Life Services, ensuring regulatory compliance and agency standards and practices are met. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for acting in the absence of all roles to maintain successful operations.

GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that service delivery and operations meet regulatory standards set forth by OPWDD and the needs of residences.

  • Ensures that standard operating procedures are followed by all staff, and that all staff receives support and supervision.

  • Provides on-call coverage on a twenty-four-hour seven days a week basis.

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates client policies, practices, and procedures in conjunction with the Operations Director.

  • Ensures oversight of each residences’ program planning, staffing, and ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, and regulations under the direction of the Operations Directors

  • Provides direct supervision and oversight to Program Coordinators, and Residential/Assistant Managers, Senior DSPs, Medical Direct Support Professionals and Direct Support Professionals in the absence of a Program Coordinator.

  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of staff.

  • Assist in onboarding, supervising, and evaluating staff.

  • Prepares reports as required and assigned by Operations Director

  • Attends meetings, as necessary.

  • Assists in the development of proposals and/or contracts with funding or potential funding sources.

  • Assists in the designs and oversees record keeping systems

  • Ensures proper handling and reporting of critical incidents.

  • Establishes and promotes inter-agency and community relations.

  • Oversees the development and implementation of resident’s support/recovery plans, goals, and objectives

  • Maintains program integrity and participant satisfaction

  • Develops and implements training in conjunction with training department

  • Ensures the maintenance of all training records to ensure compliance

  • Leads, supervises, and coaches staff on an ongoing basis as well as ensures evaluations are maintained on a quarterly and/or annual basis

  • Complies with all regulatory standards set forth by OPWDD, DOH, Medicaid and Mental Hygiene Laws

  • Conducts regular visits to all locations

  • Conduct audits of records and resident funds

  • Reviews, and approves all weekly and monthly billing, ensures staff is trained and that all billing is completed on a timely basis and in accordance with agency policy and procedure

  • Communicates effectively, professionally and with a person-centered approach with residents, service providers, and other involved parties including family members and advocates on behalf of both the individuals and the agency

  • Assists in the development of agenda items to be presented to staff in monthly staff meetings- ensuring effective communication

  • Serves on committees as required- i.e. Internal Review Committee; Human Rights Committee; Strategic Planning committee

  • Works collectively with Intake Director, Behavior Specialist, Benefit Specialist, and all other Administrative facets of RISE

  • Successfully assists in managing the financial responsibilities of the program to guarantee sustainability, capital improvements and opportunities for expansion

  • Mental Health and OPWDD Assistant Directors will provide support and rotating weekend on call coverage to all programs to include but not limited to, oversight and implementation of policies and procedures.

  • Mental health and OPWDD Assistant Directors will assist in staff development, cross training for Direct Support Professionals and Residential Counselors, management training, and collaboration amongst the Mental Health and OPWDD departments by implementing buddy programs to assist with staffing shortages and retention.

  • Other duties as assigned

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Proficient understanding of OPWDD regulations and training requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and methods involved in providing recovery oriented OPWDD services

  • Assist in facilitating rehabilitation practices and resources available in the community and the most effective means of utilizing them

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with professionals and subordinate staff

  • Ability to analyze, plan, develop and implement programs which effectively meet the ever-changing needs of the individuals we serve

  • Computer skills with the ability to create, maintain, and navigate computer systems including Precision Care, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; as well as experience with data entry/database management.

  • Effective interpersonal communication, presentation, verbal, and written skills.

  • Ability to multi-task, manage competing priorities and manage time

  • Highly organized and detail oriented.

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree Required/Master’s preferred

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in the human service field or related field

  • Minimum of five (5) years supervisory level experience preferred

  • Valid New York State Driver’s License.
