Job Responsibilities/Duties

Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) manages one of the most challenging radioactive waste cleanup projects in the country. Our focus is reducing the environmental risk posed by 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste stored in 177 underground tanks on the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. WRPS seeks an Environmental Specialist who will be responsible for providing environmental support to the Tank Farm Contractor. Provides leadership of environmental issues, drives environmental sustainability services and oversight to projects and operations, coordinates sustainability and energy management considerations related to projects and operations, supports environmental regulatory interactions, and supports/implements overall environmental sustainability and energy management strategies, policies, procedures, and standards.

The specific duties and responsibilities of the Environmental Specialist position include but are not limited to:

*Ensures projects and operations achieve environmental compliance, stewardship, and sustainability.

*Lead environmental sustainability programs including high performance sustainable buildings, recycling, procurement, education/awareness, etc.

*Drive resolution of environmental management system and sustainability issues identified.

*Identify and Evaluate DOE Orders, Regulations, and contract changes to facilitate implementation.

*Lead reviews and have oversight of work/actions to support implementation of environmental programs.

*Develop metrics and collect data to show progress implementing sustainable projects (e.g., energy usage, water balance, building designs).

*Develop and publish regular communications highlighting environmental achievements and promoting continuous improvement opportunities.

*Represent WRPS Environmental at DOE/Contractor environmental sustainability interface meetings.

*Provide clear/concise updates and communications on health of sustainability program.

*Author and review WRPS administrative procedures related to assigned work area.

*Provide technical assistance and oversight to line organizations and projects and assist environmental program owner and environmental file representatives supporting tank operations to maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, permits, and licenses.

*Coordinate with environmental protection program owners to ensure regulatory aspects and impacts are considered company, and site wide.

*Interact with federal partners, EPA. Washington State Department of Ecology, Washington State Department of Health, and other site contractors and sub-contractors regarding Hanford environmental matters.

*Prepare, maintain, and revise appropriate procedures for implementing requirements, compliance matrices, environmental permits, and licenses.

*Work effectively with others to meet deliverables, solve issues in timely manner, seek innovative approaches, apply sound and reasonable logic, follow procedures and plans, and be open and transparent.

*Manage regulatory reports, letters, responses from inspections, permitting or negotiations, as assigned.

*Obtain environmental qualification(s) as may be identified by the environmental manager.

*Perform other duties as assigned or delegated by management commensurate with training and qualifications.

Required Qualifications

Grade 18:

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in environmental science, chemistry, environmental/energy management, or related discipline

Seven (7) years of experience in environmental and regulatory reporting, analysis or sustainability related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Grade 19:

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in environmental science, chemistry, environmental/energy management, or related discipline

Nine (9) years of experience in environmental and regulatory reporting, analysis or sustainability related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level; however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.

Grade 20:

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in environmental science, chemistry, environmental/energy management, or related discipline

Ten (10) years of experience in environmental and regulatory reporting, analysis or sustainability related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level; however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.

Desired Qualifications

*Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate with multiple organizations and various levels of management.

*Knowledge of environmental regulations and environmental sustainability is preferred.

*Familiarity with energy, water, and greenhouse gas reduction best practices is desirable.

*Ability to work with a diverse group to encourage and promote environmental sustainability is preferred.

*ISO 14001:2015 Lead Auditor qualified.

*Certified Energy Manager.

Compensation & Benefits

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.

Hiring Range Minimum: $104,175

Hiring Range Maximum: $158,875
