BASIC FUNCTION

Responsible for the overall management of KOHLER Brand and Sterling Brand Stainless Steel Production Operations including manufacturing, Quality, Engineering & Materials and support functions as well as development/implementation of capital projects for all products.

Manage relationships with associates and peers in division.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Must be very familiar with Industrial safety programs and controls to secure Full and Complete commitment from all associates to maintain the Plant’s current World Class levels of Safety. Must have extensive experience and performance to support a strong safety record in previous employment. This is a non-negotiable requirement for this Position.

  2. Provide inspired leadership for the organization. Make important policy, planning, and strategy decisions. Develop, implement, and review operational policies and procedures.

  3. Plan, organize and direct the daily manufacturing operations to maintain schedule adherence as well as quality and productivity goals in compliance with Engineering prescribed standards and customer specifications. (Realm of supervision up to 400 hourly associates, 2 – 4 General Supervisors, 10 – 12 Foremen, and coordination with related support network resources). Utilization of advanced problem-solving tools is paramount to being successful in this role. Must be capable of driving solutions to manufacturing issues by leading Kaizen events, DOE projects, and Standardized Work projects. Competence in advanced problem-solving techniques such as Shainin, Six Sigma, and others will be key to leading the team.

  4. Work closely with Plant Controller to prepare and manage direct operating budgets for the manufacturing operations within established levels appropriated.

  5. Work in collaboration with Plant Human Resources Manager to maintain adequate staffing resources through extensive cross training and associate development across the manufacturing organization.

  6. Work closely with Plant and Corporate Engineering Departments in the implementation of Capital Plans related to new products and/or existing products for the manufacturing operation. Demonstrated capacity of managing department level budgets is a must.

  7. Be the Driver for all Quality control in the manufacturing organization by actively participating in the Quality System including but not limited to Six Sigma projects and KOS. Instill the Kohler Quality principles to all associates and ensure their commitment. Lean on Plant Quality Manager for support but be aware that the product quality level must be driven and built into the product primarily by the effectiveness of the Manufacturing Manager. Must be well versed in advanced statistical data collection/analysis methods.

  8. Coordinate subordinates activities to develop and implement an annual cost reduction program to improve margins.

  9. Provide specific priorities and direction to support departments in order to optimize operation effectiveness and efficiency to comply with plant goals and objectives.

  10. Responsible for managing the production build schedule to ensure timely delivery to meet customer requirements. Objective is to build exact quantities. Overproduction is equally as bad as underproduction.

  11. Work closely with Materials group to control Raw/WIP/FG levels within desired ranges. Must employ production strategies that minimize the level of raw goods at the point of use. Should have extensive demonstrated experience in this arena. Hands on experience with MRP systems and SAP business system.

  12. Contribute to nurturing the current positive associate relations with union associates and Union Leaders.

  13. Must have conduct beyond reproach.

Skills/Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is valid. However, we prefer the following:

Requires a four-year college degree in business or engineering. Master’s Degree in either engineering or Business preferred. 15 - 20 years of successful and progressive manufacturing experience. Fluency in both English and Spanish required. Bachelor’s degree in operations management or related field.

Experience in management, operations, and leadership.

Understanding of general finance and budgeting, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash-flow management.

Ability to build consensus and relationships among managers, partners, and employees.

Excellent communication skills.

Solid understanding of financial management
