SUMMARY:

We currently haveone vacancyin the Fleet Services Division of the Reno FireDepartment in which hiring will begin immediately following the close of this recruitment. This recruitment will also establish a list for future vacancies, which will be filled as they occur.

MINIMUM/PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

The following minimum qualifications are required to be met at the time of application.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Work Experience:

  • Two years scheduling repairs in a service center preferred.

License:

  • Valid driver's license.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

Assign jobs through the Superintendent to appropriate staff as they arrive.

Coordinate and schedule the repair and servicing of Fire Department vehicles and equipment.

Interface with customers to resolve problems; write repair orders, schedule work, and track recalls; file service bulletins.

Prepare the monthly schedule for the preventative maintenance program by scheduling vehicles for service based on the vehicles' previous usage and maintenance manual recommendation and the annual schedule.

Inform departments when their vehicles are scheduled for servicing and make reminder calls as needed.

Record work service requests on malfunctioning vehicles to ensure the receipt of all pertinent information from the vehicle operator.

Receive verbal complaints regarding vehicles and determine whether vehicle must be repaired immediately or at the next scheduled maintenance servicing.

Assist supervisor in answering telephone and radio calls, transporting vehicles for servicing, and initiating repair orders for shop work; may inspect work completed by outside vendors.

Make and assign spare vehicle keys.

Receive, stock and issue various parts, materials, supplies, tools and equipment; verify and inspect incoming shipments for appropriate quantity and quality; sign for items as appropriate.

Obtain price quotes for parts and supplies, prepare bids and order parts from vendors; ensure compliance with general contract guidelines; prioritize and expedite orders.

Obtain and fill customer orders; deliver stock items as appropriate; answer questions regarding product information including use and safety of products, handling and disposal and ordering procedures.

Maintain detailed vendor files and records of parts supply transactions; log returned parts for credit due; prepare various reports relating to parts issuance, receipts, work orders and billing information.

Perform data entry including transfers, corrections and warranty transactions; log parts issued and post work orders into computer; retrieve information to assist in locating parts and supplies.

Assist technical staff in determining accurate parts applications for assigned projects; place telephone orders for stock and special items; research parts manuals and technical publications.

Conduct a periodic inventory of stock items; maintain proper stock levels by ordering supplies and parts on a daily basis.

Perform a variety of clerical support activities including answering the telephone, typing forms and correspondence, and fleet data entry.

Maintain the warehouse in a clean and orderly manner.

Maintain accurate and detailed records, parts inventory and service files; prepare reports as requested.

Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the shop and surrounding work area; dispose of waste, oils and chemicals according to established safety procedures and guidelines.
