Generac Clean Energy team is seeking an experienced Electronic Design Engineer III with expertise in mixed signal PCB design, power electronics, battery electronics, or sensors. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to define, develop, test, and release high performance PCBAs into volume production.

Candidates should be passionate about enhancing system performance and be comfortable operating in a fast-moving internal startup type environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to every phase of design: initial concept, defining requirements, developing architecture, designing and simulating circuitry, PCB layout, prototyping, validating, optimizing, certifying, and seeing the design through mass production.

  • Tightly integrate with mechanical, firmware, and test teams to meet system level requirements.

  • Lead/participate in design reviews.

  • Perform or assist in DFMEAs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 4+ years of relevant work experience in the development and deployment of PCBAs into volume production.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient with Altium’s schematic and layout design tools and processes, including revision control, PLM management, and part library development.

  • Knowledge of PCB materials and stack-ups that assure optimal EMC performance, signal/power integrity, and DFM rules.

  • Proficient in analog circuit modeling using SPICE tool of choice.

  • Ability to incorporate microcontrollers/processors in designs with consideration for firmware and functional requirements.

  • Discrete power supply design (AC/DC, DC/DC).

  • Knowledge of energy monitoring and sensing techniques used in battery electronics and grid-tied systems.

  • Familiarity with digital communication interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet, CAN).

  • Proficient with lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzers, electronic loads, signal generators, etc).

  • Excellent PCB level debugging and failure analysis.

  • Knowledge of UL, FCC, IEEE, NFPA, ANSI standards relevant to the functional safety and EMC compliance of printed circuit boards.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally be ready to lift loads as large as 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include actions typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position will require occasional travel, including internationally.
