Description

Position Summary

The Corporate Controller will undertake all aspects of the general accounting concerning the balance sheet and income statement, monthly financial reporting, and the development and oversight of internal control policies and procedures. In addition, they will oversee the month-end financial close and reporting processes, including but not limited to financial planning and analysis and budget comparisons, reconciling various reports and financial data, and journal entries. In addition to your core financial responsibilities, you will also lead and manage a team of skilled professionals in the accounting department.

The Corporate Controller will be a strategic thought and business partner and will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer. The successful candidate will be a hands-on, participative manager.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Oversee monthly accounting close and consolidation process while providing accounting guidance to team members. Effectively lead all accounting functions, including policy development and implementation and financial system development and management.

  • Ensure that effective internal financial and operational controls are designed and implemented in all areas of the business.

  • Development and adherence of corporate accounting policies ensuring compliance with GAAP for all financial reporting. Stay abreast of accounting regulation changes and communicate/manage implications accordingly.

  • Assist finance with cost accounting processes and procedure development for labor and overhead allocation, and review variances

  • Oversee eCommerce financial activities, including revenue recognition and expense allocation.

  • Develop a cohesive and collaborative accounting organization that proactively supports the overall business and is capable of proactively addressing challenges and opportunities.

  • Oversee corporate sales/use tax function entailing the completion of various SALT returns.

  • Manage the control and maintenance of fixed asset inventory system and depreciation schedules.

  • Ensures compliance with State and Federal Regulatory agencies on business licensing, collection and maintenance of census data, benchmarking, and other accounting factors subject to regulatory oversite.

  • In collaboration with the finance team, review preliminary financials, account variances, etc. prior to publishing.

  • Assist the finance team in all cash management efforts and position including but not limited to maintaining appropriate cash flow to facilitate AP’s needs as well as necessary cash collection inflow

  • Oversee and support the Account Payable, Accounts Receivable, & Collection teams in the following functions.

  1. Customer onboarding,

  2. vendor onboarding,

  3. write-off, back charges,

  4. identifying and negotiating master agreements opportunities.

  • Collaborate with other accounting, finance and IT leaders to lead process improvement efforts regarding the automation of AR/AP invoicing (e.g., researching and implementing accounting software solutions, Lien Release automation, etc.).

Qualifications

Position Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a demonstrated history of success in corporate accounting leadership. Experience in the manufacturing or other industrial environment is a must. Other desired qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance, or business.

  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience in Accounting and Controllership roles with increasing leadership responsibility.

  • CPA or other accounting certification preferred but not required.

  • Practical experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting, technical accounting, and financial management.

  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., IFS, JDE or SAP).

  • Must possess strong financial acumen, demonstrating the ability to analyze complex financial data and provide strategic insights for informed decision-making.

  • Proficient in cost accounting techniques with a solid understanding of e-commerce operations.

  • Have experience supervising accounting personnel.

  • Possess strong communication skills and a personable, engaging management style.

  • Have proven skills in leading, mentoring, challenging, and developing an accounting team within a manufacturing or distribution environment while emphasizing employee development throughout the organization.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including ability and desire to communicate and collaborate across functional areas of the organization.

  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to motivate teams.
