The Work:
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will serve as a technical authority for Chinook. You will lead facility engineering projects throughout the facility planning, design, construction, warranty, and operations lifecycle. You will utilize their building design, construction, and operations experience in complex mechanical systems to develop engineering solutions, ensure compliance, recommend best practices, and increase operational efficiencies for Chinook's clients. You will exercise considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments and supervise, coordinate, provide leadership to and review the work of assigned staff. This position is REMOTE, but you must be able to travel to client sites up to 10% of the time. Due to the location of the majority of our clients, candidates in the Eastern Time Zone of the United States are preferred, especially candidates in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform energy management, HVAC and life safety surveys, and facilities management evaluations and condition assessments.
Prepare feasibility studies for design and construction.
Prepare engineering or repair/replacement estimates and schedules.
Conduct design reviews, submittal reviews, reviews and facilitation of training plans, and O&M manual reviews.
Prepare mechanical design calculations.
Utilize mechanical design software.
Write technical specifications and develop drawings and visual aids.
Review and provide comments on designs for configuration, reliability, redundancy.
Review equipment and controls technology selections and strategies.
Review and provide comments on equipment submittals, test reports, and manuals.
Provide quality assurance to ensure compliance with client criteria, codes, standards, and policies and procedures.
Be a self‐starter who initiates action, working independently or with a team while providing multi‐discipline coordination.
Provide equipment factory and field acceptance testing support.
Develop testing, maintenance, lockout tagout, and safety procedures.
Share your creativity, innovative spirit, and solutions-oriented thinking to achieve goals and anticipate client needs.
Work with senior leadership to grow our mechanical practice.
Adhere to all Chinook policies and SOPs.
Ensure continued excellence at Chinook.
Present reports and disseminate information both in writing and verbally, explaining complex technical information clearly to engineers, contractors, and facility/owner staff across all communication platforms.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have a Bachelor's Degree and at least 5 years of direct experience in facilities mechanical systems such as HVAC, Plumbing (domestic water) systems, Building Automation Systems (BAS), and testing adjusting and balancing (TAB). A High School Diploma, a Professional Engineer (PE) License, and PE license may be waved with successful FE exam certification and intent to obtain PE in the next 12 months.
Must possess an in-depth knowledge of industry standards and practices e.g. ASHRAE, BCA, ACG, GSA.
Experience using AutoCAD and/or Micro Station to prepare design plans is required.
Must be proficient with the MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as scheduling software.
Citizenship/Clearance Requirements:
- Applicants for employment must be U.S. Citizens and must be able to obtain and maintain up to a Top Secret clearance due to our customer requirements and the nature of the work that we do.
Preferred Qualifications:
An Active Secret or higher Security Clearance.
Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA).
LEED Accredited Professional certifications.
Supervisory / management experience.
Energy modeling experience.
Physical Considerations:
Must be able to walk construction sites with uneven surfaces, carry up to 25 lbs., climb stairs and ladders, and work both indoors and outdoors in severe weather conditions, and in dust generating environments.
Must be able to crawl to get to wherever a problem is so that you can see it for yourself.
Applicants must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
