Vail Resorts Marketing Technology Applications Principal Architect in Remote, United States

DEPARTMENT PURPOSE

The mission of the Marketing Technology team is to leverage Vail Resorts proprietary guest data and Omni-Channel marketing integrations to unlock value for the business. The Marketing Technology Applications team is responsible for providing out front thought leadership, excellent internal customer support, and dedicated tool ownership to each of our core marketing applications partners across our marketing channels (e.g. Paid Media, Relationship Marketing (CRM), Asset Management, and Online Digital Experience, etc), We also interact with our Data Engineering team leveraging real-time data access within our marketing efforts to build rich customer experiences when applicable.

POSITION PURPOSE – Marketing Technology Applications Principal Architect

The Marketing Applications Principal Architect role is a strategically important position reporting to the Director of Marketing Applications. This Principal Architect will be an important part of our high-energy, unique, fast-paced, and innovative culture as we re-imagine our next phase of Go-To Market processes and system integrations. The position will be primarily responsible for building and overseeing the Vail Resorts’ tool integrations expanding our Go-To Market construct (Media, Email, Push, SMS, and Digital personalization) transforming our Data Driven Roadmap through the use of Real-Time data access, a fully implemented CDP / Customer Marketing Orchestration tools, and various direct end points for individual channel execution. This position will bring value to the organization through thought leadership, design and execution of our strategic tooling investments for Vail Resorts, professional development across application teams, and stakeholder management of senior technology and marketing leaders.

We are looking for an articulate and inquisitive leader that is highly ambitious and detail oriented. This leader will come with deep Marketing & Technology expertise – primarily focused on Omni-Channel marketing efforts driving revenue across a wide variety of brands and lines of business simultaneously.

They will have a proven track record for delivering large and complex strategic business initiatives and are comfortable deep in the weeds of core architecture, networking and system design, but can also level up to a 30,000 ft view for senior leadership discussions.

To succeed in this role, you must have a keen understanding of the decision-making processes on new tooling, be able to build relationships with functional leadership (able to present to Director and VP level stakeholders), and the ability to systematically learn and grow our applications with a 6 month lens on what our investments will take for operational support post implementation. This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in driving high visibility projects critical to Vail Resort’s continued success.

In this role, you will be responsible to build and enable marketing systems which span across web, mobile, email, audience creation, analytics, reporting, personalization, decisioning, testing, display, search, digital asset mgmt and social ad platforms.

Job Responsibilities:

  • [MarTech] 5+ years of implementation and ownership effectively navigating a large and complex channel Go-To Market construct, prioritizing Omni-Channel real-time data access to guest experiences across multiple different brands and business units. Experience leveraging Azure and Microsoft cloud systems are required.

  • [MarTech] Knowledge of Real-Time Data Configuration systems (Pub/Sub, FIFO style data streaming) – (Kafka, Temporal, Tealium)

  • [MarTech] Knowledge of Customer Data Platforms and Marketing Data Access Landscape (Adobe, Amperity, Treasure Data, Salesforce, Microsoft, etc)

  • [Communication] Ability to translate detailed system integration requirements into clear, concise, and articulate executive summaries for consumption by the CIO, Marketing Technology Vice President, Individual Channel Directors, and Vail Resorts Executive Committee.

  • [Leadership] Demonstrate strong leadership through the robust development and execution of our Digital Data Roadmap, showing high emotional intelligence and self-awareness of how actions impact the team and stakeholders, showing ambition to overcome obstacles, and the learning agility to tackle and solve new and increasingly complex problems.

  • [Partnership] Partner with cross-functional teams across key Marketing Channel Stakeholders and Technology stakeholders to provide direction and decision on how Vail Resort’s marketing technology can be integrated across our holistic business.

  • [Process management] Demonstrate the ability to coordinate cross-functional efforts to drive real business impact partners based on detailed go to market expectations.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Computer Science, Mathematics, or Data Engineering) required

  • Graduate degree or technical disciplines / certifications in Azure Architecture a plus.

  • 5+ years demonstrating a high degree of proficiency in designing and developing complex, enterprise solutions which span on-prem, hybrid and cloud based architectures specifically leveraging data at scale in marketing tooling

  • 3-5+ years specifically in an architect role designing and supporting real-time (FIFO, Pub/Sub data streaming) technology architectures, workflows, while focusing on best practices and governance guidelines

  • Hands on experience in architecture and design of marketing, advertising and data platforms including but not limited Media, Email, SMS / Push, and Digital Integrations

  • Knowledge of Customer Data Platforms and Marketing Data Access Landscape (Adobe, Amperity, Treasure Data, Salesforce, Microsoft, etc)

  • Knowledge of Email, SMS, MMS, and Push MarTech Landscape (Attentive, Braze, Klaviyo, Airship, Emarsys, etc)

  • Working knowledge of general Media Go To Market systems

  • Working knowledge of AI enablement in Marketing Platforms

  • Working knowledge of GDPR and Cross Country Data Ecosystems (with the effects on Marketing enablement and supporting systems)

  • Ability to create tiered delivery of solutions such that it can meet both immediate needs, and build long-term strategic solutions in parallel

  • Must be able handle multiple projects (and go to market channel needs / tactics) simultaneously and coordinate across multiple functions within an organization.

  • Highly collaborative approach and open communication style

  • Understanding of holistic enterprise architecture while also focusing on integration of analytical components with enterprise usage in mind

  • Proven record of building a sense of trust that creates a comfortable and effective workplace while also being assertive and not afraid of doing what is best for Vail Resorts

  • Knowledge of Email, SMS, MMS, and Push MarTech Landscape (Attentive, Braze, Klaviyo, Airship, Emarsys, etc)

  • Minimal travel to resort locations and also to partner/vendor locations

Computer Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of Azure and Microsoft Cloud Systems (Fabric, etc)

  • Azure Architecture Certified

  • Knowledge of Real-Time Data Configuration systems (Pub/Sub, FIFO style data streaming) – (Kafka, Temporal, Tealium)

  • Knowledge of Customer Data Platforms and Marketing Data Access Landscape (Adobe, Amperity, Treasure Data, Salesforce, Microsoft, etc)

  • High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook and other applications.

The expected Total Compensation for this role is $99,000 - $140,000 + annual bonus. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
