Responsibilities

The Role

As a passionate and accomplished communicator, you will be responsible for helping to develop and execute thought leadership strategies and programs that enhance our reputation across all Ascension markets. As a trusted member of our 5 person Reputation and Thought Leadership team, you’ll be supporting our executive visibility, media relations, and community foundation programs to help differentiate Ascension to our external partners and communities in our key markets. You are comfortable developing strategic plans and narratives that work well at a national level and can be cascaded and customized for each of our ministry markets. You are a strategist, project manager, content developer and relationship builder, comfortable engaging with national and local media, as well as community, government and market leaders in support of our organization’s vision, achievements and unique identity. You will report to the Sr. Director of Reputation and Thought Leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day to day execution of company-wide thought leadership campaigns and programs, in partnership with advocacy, marketing, and internal communications

  • Support our media relations, executive communications, community impact and Ascension Foundation leaders and their communication programs for the organization

  • Manage our speaker’s bureau and awards programs, structured to support the key thought leadership storylines you and the broader team will develop and deliver against

  • Be available to support executive communications and community foundation programs with senior leaders

  • Help support the budget, metrics and measurement functions for the team, tied to strategic, operational and advocacy objectives

  • Ensure that communications reflect the Mission, Vision and Values of Ascension as a healing ministry of the Catholic Church

  • Combine a big-picture perspective with attention to detail, clarity and focus

  • Maintain flexible availability and responsiveness both during and outside of normal work hours as necessary

Complexity of Work

  • Requires excellent writing and project management skills, as well as critical thinking, strategic counseling and decisive judgment.

  • Ideally the candidate will also have a knowledge of the evolving healthcare market, Ascension’s history and current initiatives, and communications practices and standards.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful, fast-paced environment

Work Experience

  • Eight plus years in an external communications management role, ideally with experience working in a healthcare provider system or similar services organization

  • Experience with executive communications and counsel

  • Familiarity with media relations, executive communications, and foundation communications

  • Adept at the rapid development of content in support of national and local business, market and organizational communications needs

  • Experience developing clear KPIs and reporting out to multiple teams, including senior executives

Requirements

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency with 3 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 2 years of cumulative experience OR 7 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required. 3 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
