Amazon Technical Program Manager in Redmond, Washington

The Role:

The Project Kuiper team is looking for a Technical Program Manager with experience in hardware and software. The role will interface with cross-functional engineering and program/product management teams to develop flight and ground hardware paired with software for integration into the Kuiper system. Key job responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Lead a cross-functional team to develop hardware and software solutions that change people’s lives.

  • Drive technical design trades for products that face challenging performance goals that must survive harsh environments.

  • Develop architectures working across all engineering disciplines.

  • Drive the development of system level requirements and verification and validation plans.

  • Act as the point of contact for the product area and work across all engineering functions to identify and mitigate risks in meeting shared goals.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively to executive management on engineering development plans, status, and critical issues. Escalate urgent issues appropriately and drive them to closure in a timely manner.

  • Organize regular project and team meetings, focusing on solving technical and programmatic challenges.

  • Drive post-mortem learning and improvements over time.

  • Demonstrate leadership and be adept at navigating through tough situations, juggling various priorities and managing constraints.

Export Control Requirement:

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science , Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years experience in hardware, software, system integration and/or test development of complex systems.

  • 3+ years of experience in a technical lead, systems engineer, engineering program management, or technical program management role.

  • 3+ years of experience leading cross-functional teams delivering products on schedule.

  • Proficiency with at least one schedule tracking tools such as MS Project, SmartSheet or alternative

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science , Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Experience with Avionics Systems.

  • Experience with high volume manufacturing test methods, concepts and solutions.

  • Ability to lead interdisciplinary discussions between Hardware, Firmware and Software teams to define and drive scope and clarity of work, and reach optimum system level trades.

  • Experience developing high-performance systems for aerospace applications or systems operating in extreme environments.

  • Experience in automated testing and system characterization.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Track record of successfully delivering complete systems (hardware, firmware, software) on time, to scope, with high quality.

  • Ability to regularly engage with senior stake holders and influence across the organization.

  • Ability to effectively escalate while maintain trust of the team.

  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, with ability to work successfully across all engineering disciplines.

  • High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $101,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $197,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
