Amazon Sr. PCBA Manufacturing Test Engineer, PCBA Manufacturing and Test Engineering in Redmond, Washington

Amazon’s Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband network connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

As a PCBA Manufacturing Test Engineer, you will be responsible for defining and implementing manufacturing and test processes for Satellite PCBA sub-systems. You will be a key member of the development team and will be the main interface between internal engineering and operations teams as well as our manufacturing partners.

Key job responsibilities

• Develop test strategy, implement and optimize test setup/processes at Contract Manufacturing sites including identification, specification, design and qualification of test fixtures, test equipment and diagnostic software.

• Work with the Design and Manufacturing teams to identify and resolve manufacturing challenges by verifying compliance with DFM and DFT principles.

• Identify and report product failures to manufacturing and quality teams

• Train operators on test processes and support recurring certification programs

• Record, analyze, and report process metrics to predict and eliminate process failures

• Support PCBA debug and root-cause failure analysis at Contract Manufacturing sites

• Provide feedback to Engineering on test coverage, fault isolation capability, and PCBA failure trends for continuous improvement efforts

• Manage configuration changes and manage configuration control throughout the process

As a PCBA Manufacturing Test Engineer, you have the ability to dive deep on the details to identify, understand and solve difficult technical problems and also utilize a system level approach to prioritize issues for the whole program. You thrive in a hands-on environment and will spend time in the office, on the factory floor, at manufacturing partners, and in the lab to execute the Project Kuiper mission.

About the team

The PCBA Manufacturing and Test Engineering team works with the R&D, Quality, and Reliability teams to develop, deploy, and support PCBA manufacturing and test processes and equipment at our contract manufacturers. This is an inclusive, inter-disciplinary team that is committed to performance, quality, & reliability. Your breadth of exposure will be immense as you collaborate with other core groups bringing PCBAs into production.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Science or related field

  • 5+ years of experience designing and building test fixtures and complex test systems including RF Functional Tests, High Power Electrical Tests, ICT/bed-of-nails fixtures

  • 5+ years of experience integrating software and hardware systems

  • 5+ years of experience in the use of standard electronic lab test equipment (i.e., oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.)

  • Experience with Linux/scripting

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience designing and building test fixtures and complex test systems including RF Functional Tests, High Power Electrical Tests, ICT/bed-of-nails fixtures

  • Experience with test plans and protocols related to established Space Hardware test processes (GEVS / SMC-S-016)

  • Knowledge of software tools for test automation (e.g. NI LabVIEW and TestStand, Python, etc.)

  • Experience with electrical design including power supplies, FPGAs, sensors, RF, and high-speed digital interfaces

  • Ability to write detailed tester operating procedures and create deployment/capacity plans

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
