Microsoft Corporation Senior Manager - External Reporting in Redmond, Washington

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, collaborative professional to join our External Reporting team. The Senior Manager - External Reporting is part of the Corporate Accounting team that drives accounting and financial reporting excellence at Microsoft. The Corporate Accounting team prepares, analyzes, and reviews our consolidated financial results and ensures compliance with United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting requirements.

The Senior Manager - External Reporting plays a critical role in our financial reporting to shareholders and offers a unique enterprise-wide view of the company from the financial core. The Senior Manager - External Reporting collaborates closely with a variety of stakeholders across the company, with direct visibility of leaders, and provides a great opportunity to grow and deliver impact. The Senior Manager - External Reporting will report to the Senior Finance Director responsible for External Reporting at Microsoft.

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in the end-to-end process for periodic SEC filings, including 10-Qs and 10-Ks and associated Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) reporting efforts, to ensure that financial statements adhere to GAAP and SEC regulations.

  • Provide support to business partners, including Legal (CELA), Human Resources, and Investor Relations, to ensure the accuracy of other filings such as the Proxy Statement, benefit plan 11-Ks, earnings release 8-Ks, and foreign filings.

  • Partner with business groups, the Central Finance Team, and Investor Relations to understand key drivers of financial results and ensure accurate and consistent messaging across management reporting, earnings materials, and SEC filings.

  • Maintain knowledge of GAAP and SEC regulations, monitor changes to accounting and reporting guidance, assess the impact to Microsoft, and make necessary changes to policies, controls, and disclosures as appropriate.

  • Understand internal accounting policies and maintain Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) compliance for certain controls over financial reporting.

  • Contribute toward improving effectiveness and efficiency in the corporate monthly/quarterly close and reporting process.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 4+ years accounting or finance experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 3+ years accounting or finance experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

Additional/Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SEC registered companies

  • Professional accounting certification, such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent.

  • Proficient knowledge of GAAP accounting and SEC reporting, including experience with technical research and implementation.

  • Working knowledge of XBRL

Accounting IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $91,800 - $178,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $117,900 - $195,000 per year.
