Microsoft Corporation Radio Frequency (RF)Compliance Test Engineer in Redmond, Washington

The Radio Frequency (RF)Compliance Test Engineer will provide a key function for the compliance team via RF Regulatory compliance and/or SAR testing for an exciting, cutting-edge family of products.

Primary responsibilities include defining the regulatory radio compliance test procedures required for each product and performing and coordinating those test efforts in the lab. This includes determining the correct test setup and measurements required, ensuring that the tests are performed correctly, testing the product and completing the necessary paperwork, selecting and maintaining suitable equipment for the various radio types in production and in development and ensuring that the infrastructure to perform mandatory radio compliance testing and certification is in place. Other responsibilities include establishing, implementing, coordinating and executing regulatory radio test plans throughout the development cycle for a product, tracking the new developments in the regulatory industry with respect to radio compliance requirements, maintaining documentation and providing input on RF/SAR compliance.

As a Radio Frequency (RF) Compliance Test Engineer you will be responsible for the RF and/or SAR test compliance across an exciting range of next-gen devices from Surface, XBOX, HoloLens. For multiple products, you will be creating test plans according to FCC / ISED / CE requirements, performing testing, evaluating and reporting results to compliance engineers and development teams, and working with all involved to mitigate problems and failures that arise.

Responsibilities

  • Perform RF Regulatory testing on wireless ITE devices with unlicensed and licensed intentional transmitters (5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth, etc.) such as RF power and power spectral density measurements, conducted/radiated spurious emissions, spectral emission mask, etc.

  • Perform RF exposure tests including SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) and PD (Power Density) on wireless ITE devices according to worldwide regulatory standards.

  • Record data and work with Compliance Engineers to fulfill testing needs and troubleshoot issues for wireless ITE devices.

  • Understand and keep current with fast changing SAR and RF regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Follow lab quality and regulatory standard procedures.

  • Follow lab equipment operation and maintenance guidelines.

  • Work productively and seamlessly as a member of a skilled team of compliance professionals.

Qualifications

Required Qualification

  • 3+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of wireless communications and RF principles either from coursework or work history.

  • Demonstrated experience working in an RF regulatory laboratory and small team environment.

  • Understanding of RF regulatory measurement techniques and use of various regulatory RF lab equipment (i.e. Spectrum Analyzers, Vector Network Analyzers, Power Meters, Signal Generators).

  • Hands-on experience in either RF regulatory compliance testing and processes and/or SAR regulatory testing and compliance processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,

  • OR related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,

  • OR related field.

  • Demonstarted experience working with Wireless technologies such as Cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

  • Understanding of FCC and European (RED) regulatory requirements and certification processes for wireless ITE devices.

  • Knowledge of RF regulatory compliance requirements and standards (FCC Parts 15, 22, 24, 27, 90, 96, ANSI C63.10, C63.26, RSS standards, ETSI EN 300 328, 301 893, 303 687, etc.)

  • Knowledge of RF Exposure standards (IEC / IEEE 62209-1528, FCC 2.1093 + KDB’s, RSS-102, etc.)

  • Experience using any of the following SAR and RF test solutions: DASY5/6/8, cSAR, R&S CMW500, Keysight UXM, Qualcomm / Intel Wireless FTM tools.

  • Ability to apply RF knowledge while working to help improve cutting edge wireless computing devices.

Hardware Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $81,900 - $160,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $105,600 - $174,600 per year.
