The Identity engineering organization builds and manages Microsoft’s identity platform for all of Microsoft’s cloud services and products including Azure, Microsoft 365, and Xbox. We boldly pursue big ideas that power transformational advances in security, user management, access management, identity governance, etc. Identity engineering team members have deep technical expertise, customer insights, and a clear point of view that comes from first-hand experience running very large-scale services. We are engineers, technology leaders and experts, digital transformation change agents, and customer advocates.   

As a part of the Identity Provisioning group, you will build a best-in-class identity management platform, to help organizations provide their employees with secure identities to seamlessly access their apps and resources. You will help us expand our portfolio of APIs and services to source identities, provision identities and govern access across apps in cloud and hybrid environments.

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineering Manager to join us and lead a team of engineers to deliver services and products that fulfil our mission. This role has a broad scope to ensure that our customers can effectively manage and monitor the sourcing and provisioning of their identity data across the 250+ ecosystem apps we support. You will be responsible for hiring and growing the best engineers in the world to become an integral part of a productive and healthy engineering organization at Microsoft.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of services with high scale, throughput, durability, and low latency.

  • Innovate and make service deployment and maintenance an efficient well-oiled machine that provides reliability with minimal manual engineer intervention.

  • Lead the definition of requirements, KPIs, priorities and planning of engineering deliverables.

  • Lead and mentor a group of diverse and dedicated team members.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of experience managing a team of engineers

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of experience building and operating large scale services or public cloud infrastructure

  • Demonstrated proficiency in C# or C/C++ Proven experience working in the Identity and/or Security domains

  • Experience creating technical strategy for a product/service area, with clear roadmap to achieve milestones towards the strategy.

  • Experience developing and managing requirements and making data-driven decisions

  • Experience delivering results in challenging environments by processing new information, assessing trade-offs, and driving changes.

  • Proven leadership skills to influence decision making across large organization and drive complex projects with multiple stakeholder teams.

  • Proven track record of growing people in the team through technical coaching and leadership mentoring.

  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively communicate technical concepts, problems and solutions to a diverse audience

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
