Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineer - Microsoft Red Team in Redmond, Washington

The Microsoft Red Team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our Intelligence team. The Intelligence team is focused on developing and maintaining the Microsoft Security Graph, a platform that collects, analyzes, and visualizes security data from various sources, such as telemetry, logs, threat intelligence feeds to help Microsoft defend against external threat actors.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering solutions that enhance the Microsoft Security Graph and enable the red team to assess Microsoft’s security posture and secure Microsoft’s infrastructure and services. You will work closely with other engineers, analysts, and operators on the team, as well as with stakeholders from other security teams across Microsoft. You will also have the opportunity to research and apply cutting-edge technologies and techniques in the fields of security, data science, and AI.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing scalable, reliable, and secure data pipelines and APIs that ingest, process, and expose security data from various sources.

  • Building and deploying data analytics and machine learning solutions that provide insights and intelligence on security threats, vulnerabilities, and risks.

  • Creating and enhancing data visualization and exploration tools that enable the red team and other security teams to interact with the Microsoft Security Graph and discover actionable information.

  • Ensuring the quality, performance, and reliability of the Microsoft Security Graph and its components, using best practices and methodologies such as testing, monitoring, logging, and debugging.

  • Collaborating and communicating with other engineers, and contribute to a positive and inclusive team culture.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional/Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience with graph technologies.

  • 2+ years of experience in security, especially in areas such as penetration testing, threat intelligence, vulnerability analysis, and security operations.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment and with diverse stakeholders.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
