Microsoft Corporation Principal Equipment Manufacturing Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. We are looking for a motivated and experienced Principal Equipment Manufacturing Engineer to join our team of engineers and scientists who are developing innovative power and cooling products for Microsoft's data centers. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing the manufacturing processes and systems for our products, ensuring high quality, efficiency, and scalability. You will also work closely with the product development, supply chain, and operations teams to support the product lifecycle from concept to deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and document manufacturing processes, procedures, and specifications for our power and cooling products, such as heat exchangers, pumps, fans, inverters, or batteries.

  • Design and implement manufacturing equipment, fixtures, tools, and test systems, using Computer Aided Design

  • Perform process validation, verification, and optimization, using statistical methods, such as Design of Experiments (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), or others.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues and defects, using root cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Support the product development team in the design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for reliability (DFR) of our products.

  • Embody our culture and values .

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 10+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repairo OR Master's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 8+ years experience in a manufacturing environment /repairo OR 12+ years equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 7+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repairo OR Master's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in a high-volume manufacturing environmento OR Doctorate in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repairo OR 9+ years equivalent experience.

  • 3+years experience with manufacturing, quality, reliability, or product engineering of datacenter products

  • Experience with cross-discipline systems design (mechanical, structural, IT/Telecom, supervisory control and data acquisition).

  • Experience with Design for Assembly (DfA)/Design for Manufacturability (DfM) process

  • Experience with LEAN Manufacturing/5S/8D practices

  • Experience with data center systems, and data center product designs

Manufacturing Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
