Microsoft Corporation General Manager, Gaming Information Technology in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft Gaming is growing strong with hundreds of millions of players who are active on some of the best-known brands in the world!  We are looking for a General Manager, Gaming Information Technology, to lead our efforts bringing together our teams and technology solutions to support the evolution and growth of the Gaming business, and our player base into the future. This role will report directly to the Microsoft Gaming Chief Operations Officer (COO). 

The General Manager, Gaming Information Technology, is responsible for leading the design, development and execution of the overall information technology (IT) strategy and deploying IT initiatives that align with Microsoft Gaming’s mission. This includes building the IT roadmap, standardization of solutions, promoting technology use throughout the organization, and fostering a culture of collaboration. This leader plays a key role in steering the organization through digital transformation, modernization of tooling, platforms, capability enhancements, and leveraging technology to further the mission. Additionally, this role has direct accountability for ensuring compliance, protecting Gaming’s assets and data by maturing the IT program. They lead and oversee the infrastructure and service delivery for our Gaming network environment(s), with a focus on innovation, collaboration, and operational excellence. The Gaming organization will look to this leader to identify appropriate investment in new technologies to streamline operations, and investments while continuing to improve service delivery for employees. 

The General Manager, Gaming Information Technology candidate, aside from having a passion for information technology, will have collaboration skills and technical expertise to work across the breadth of corporate IT, data center, hardware, platform, and game development environments that exist in the business.  They will also need to at all times align with the culture of Microsoft which values openness, diversity, and inclusion, enabling everyone to do their best work as their genuine selves.

As a General Manager forr Gaming Information Technology, your success is measured by:

  • Lead an organization of IT professionals across multiple entities.

Strategic Leadership

  • Sets, drives, and executes IT strategic plan of accountability including influencing strategies across multiple stakeholders considering synergies with other products and cultures. 

  • Translates the strategy for teams owning the roadmap for a product/solution/service area.

  • Leverages subject matter expertise to directand developlong-term business strategy, planning, and roadmap within area of accountability and translate the strategy for teams owning the roadmap.

  • Provides technical expertise and strategic input to senior leaders within Microsoft Gaming on technical or business decisions.

Transformational Expertise

  • Understands market and industry trends from a technical perspective and provides insights to partners, and the organization to help enable growth, and define a vision

  • Drives a measurable impact within Gaming and holds self, as well as senior leaders accountable for changing the direction of the field as world experts (e.g., inventing something that no one else in the world could, strategic partnerships, product categories, company policy, tools, methodologies) and creating value for the company across a short (e.g., one-year) timeframe.

Customer & Partner Relationships

  • Leverages subject matter expertise to push boundaries, influencing the definition of assessment strategies to ensure a growth mindset of learning and a customer-driven culture to promote user attraction and engagement.

  • Establishes a strategic partnership and synergy with our Security teams

  • Foster community and build shared efforts with a range of studios IT professionals and partners.

Execution & Accountability

  • Builds and leverages team's technical knowledge to drive the execution of critical technical work within IT to meet key business outcomes by setting expectations on processes and policies.

  • Develops short-term strategies to drive growth and customer demands by creating opportunities to uncover new solutions to meet long-term goals

  • Understands the drivers of the business to appropriately direct/guide strategies, investment, and resources toward revenue growth and cost efficacy.

  • Champions and maintains a strong culture of compliance, integrity, and security that exemplifies commitment to doing business with integrity and transparency in a way that develops trust.

  • Navigates a matrixed organization across stakeholders and teams to create syntheses by managing competing priorities, determining escalations to senior leadership team, and developing systems of communication and planning to assure clarity in expectations, resource allocations, and planning forecast.

  • Holds self and teams accountable to deliver on core business needs (e.g., pipeline, forecast, profit and loss) within a product/solution/service area.

  • Champion and activate D&I plan, throughout talent process, and diversity recruiting strategy.

IT Operations and Execution

  • Responsible for ensuring the planning and delivery of Gaming’s internal network environment, logistics, and the resources required to meet anticipatedgrowth .

  • Actively participate in incident management procedures relating to major incidents that impactthe business.

  • Ensure financial management of your business including the development of detailed budgets, forecasts, and management of operational and capital spending.

  • Management and oversight of all vendor/partner contracts and relationships including leased-facility landlords, IT and CE service providers, partner support teams, and being a driving force for vendor standardization across the division.

  • Collaborate with global and regional management teams and contribute to improvement programs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business, Engineering, Math, or related field AND 12+ years product/service/project/program management, software development, or engineering experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Business, Engineering, Math, or related field AND 10+ years product/service/project/program management, software development, or engineering experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business, Engineering, Math, or related field AND 14+ years product/service/project/program management, software development, or engineering experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Business, Engineering, Math, or related field AND 12+ years product/service/project/program management, software development, or engineering experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 7+ years people management experience.

  • 10+ years experience working with cross-team stakeholders in a matrixed organization.

  • 7+ years experience in a specialized technical product, solution, or service area.

  • Experience managing large vendor multi-year contracts and operating entities.

  • Ability to successfully influence across a highly matrixed set of stakeholders to achieve objectives.  

  • Experience successfully managing high volume technical service delivery across a distributed portfolio.

  • Strong working knowledge of physical IT infrastructures (e.g., Servers, SANs, Networking, Capacity, DC Rack/Enclosures, structured cabling, etc.).  

  • Knowledge of critical environment concepts and infrastructure (e.g., Electrical Distribution, Mechanical Cooling Systems, etc.).   

  • A solid understanding of financial management, budgeting, and forecasting.  Awareness of IT Service Operations fundamentals and principles (ITIL, MOF, OLA/SLA, CSI, etc.).   

  • Project or program management experience and certification(s) (e.g., Six Sigma, Kaizen, PMI, etc.). 

  • Experience within the gaming or entertainment industry

Engineering General Management M7 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $204,600 - $331,900 per year.

There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $225,600 - $364,800 per year.
