Job Description

The opportunity

Accountable for the preparation and/or review of Fund Tailored Shareholder Reports and related regulatory filings for a high volume of funds and funds of high technical complexity.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare/review tailored annual and semiannual shareholders reports for John Hancock mutual funds of high complexity.

  • Reconcile supporting schedules, including subadvisor, custodian bank reports and related audit packages, to the shareholder reports produced.

  • Communication and resolution of accounting and reporting items with internal and external groups, as necessary.

  • Assist with the implementation of new regulatory pronouncements related to the required disclosures in the mutual funds’ financial statements.

  • Coordinate and review the flow of information necessary to complete shareholder reports, including Managers Discussion of Fund Performance, Performance, Portfolio of Investments, tax disclosures and Legal items. Requires interaction with internal John Hancock Groups (Fund Administration, Legal, Investment Operations, etc.) to ensure the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of information included.

  • Interact with the audit firms on reviews.

  • Prepare reporting and/or supporting schedules for certain SEC filings, including Form N-CSR.

  • Coordinate with external vendors to ensure completeness and accuracy of items included in regulatory filings.

  • Assist team members with implementation of complex accounting or regulatory developments.

  • Coordinate and/or perform centralized tasks required in the report preparation and audit processes.

  • Ensure that departmental documentation, including policies and procedures and reporting checklists, are accurate and current.

  • Manage and/or participate in the departmental special projects and other duties as assigned.

  • Resolve high-priority, complex issues/problems filtered up from the Fund Reporting Accountant/Senior Accountants or assigned by management.

  • Responsible for special projects assigned by management in relation to the Funds. Handle special projects related to assigned funds.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business with a concentration in Accounting.

  • CPA or CFA preferred, or CPA candidate or CAT passer preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of mutual fund industry including the accounting for mutual funds

  • Advanced Understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) surrounding the accounting and reporting of mutual funds/investment companies.

  • Advance attention to detail with the ability to work in a fast paced, time sensitive environment

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with all levels of the organization and other internal (Fund Administration and others) and external (custodian banks and funds’ auditors) stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel preferred

  • VBA macro or Alteryx Designer user preferred but not required

  • 1-3 years of directly related fund reporting experience required.
