The Opportunity:

 

As an Assistant Intellectual Property Portfolio Manager, you will be responsible for senior level technology transfer activities. These activities will include technology evaluation, managing of patent, and/or trademark filings, and prosecution by outside legal counsel, filing patent applications, and copyright registration; marketing intellectual properties; drafting, negotiating, and concluding option agreements and license agreements; patented and patent-pending technologies as well as research tools; and monitoring/ensuring contractual compliance. You will work closely with WSU inventors and administrators, the Washington State Attorney General's office, outside patent counsel, licensing attorneys, industry representatives, and economic development associations in the conduct of technology transfer activities. These technology transfer activities will be conducted under your direction.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• A Bachelor's degree in a biological science, physical science, or engineering with a broad technical knowledge base AND five (5) years experience in technology transfer. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience. A doctoral degree in a related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience.

 

• Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to intellectual property management and good knowledge of U.S. patent, copyright, and trademark law.

 

• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, especially with respect to highly technical information.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• An advanced degree in law, business, engineering, or science.

 

• A background in marketing, sales, licensing, negotiating, and/or business development, and significant record of successful technology transfer in areas of physical sciences, engineering, software, and devices.

 

• Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to intellectual properties within a research university setting.

 

• Advanced knowledge of U.S. patent, copyright, and contract law.

 

• Knowledge of current trends in university/industry technology transfer.

Monthly Salary: $5,485.73 - $8,400 | In accordance with https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position.
