Degree Required: Master’s degree in Nutritional Science or equivalent foreign education

Job Description:

This position is responsible for all aspects of planning and conducting patient nutritional services program within the Culinary Service department in the hospital. Primary responsibilities include overseeing daily operations of patient meal preparation and delivery, managing Culinary Service employees, assigning service functions such as patient services, inventory management, production, retail, catering at off-site campus locations, department operations, and assisting in department budget preparation and monitoring. Specific duties will include:

  • Implement best practices to deliver exceptional care and service at the appropriate cost for the food service department.

  • Develop processes for and monitor food service operations to ensure conformance to nutritional, safety, sanitation, and quality standards.

  • Assess, design, implement, and evaluate food service systems to pursue excellence.

  • Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions, and current health plans to develop and provide nutritional counseling.

  • Consult with clinical staff to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patients.

  • Inspect meals served for conformance to prescribed diets and standards of palatability and appearance.

  • Select, train, and supervise workers who plan, prepare, and serve meals.

  • Develop department or assigned business line strategic plans, initiatives, and goals.

  • Establish financial objectives for the food service department by assisting in budget planning and forecasting and measuring productivity while maintaining a viable financial status

  • Facilitate all human resources functions for the food service department including hiring, training, mentoring, evaluating, and providing conflict resolution, constructive discipline and termination.

  • Participates and communicates with caregivers and interdisciplinary committees to share information, resolve conflict, and provide excellent customer service

Position oversees up to 40 direct reports including Diet Technicians and Nutrition Care Associates.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics and Supervised Practice accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND)

  • Valid Utah Certified Dietician license

  • Knowledge of financial management including budget planning and forecasting.

  • Knowledge of culinary services within a healthcare environment requiring adherence to dietary and nutritional requirements

  • Demonstrated effective business skills in culinary industry including finance, purchasing management, human resource management, and health code compliance

  • Ability to lead large teams of skilled workers in food preparation and meal execution

  • Knowledge of documenting nutrition care plans and recommendations accurately, concisely while adhering to documentation policies and standards.

Salary (Annual): $68,952 to $75,380

Work Location: Utah Valley Hospital, 1034 N 500 W, Provo UT 84604

Hours of work: Usually 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$33.01 - $50.97
