Job Information

Brown University Research Assistant in Providence, Rhode Island

Job Description:

The Research Assistant will assist with conducting experiments to examine the cellular processes by which specific genetic variants modify neurodevelopmental phenotypes associated with Autism spectrum disorders. The Research Assistant will use genetic, cell biological, stem cell, epigenetic, genome editing, and molecular techniques to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the role of the chromatin environment on human neuronal development. The Research Assistant will assist with carrying out specific experiments that involve maintenance of stem cells, neuronal differentiation of human stem cells, immunohistochemistry, imaging, molecular techniques and biochemical assays. In addition, the Research Assistant will also assist senior researchers with data analyses. The Research Assistant will also engage in and assist with general lab support duties.

Using a combination of genome edited and patient derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) the laboratory of Dr. Sofia Lizarraga hopes to gain a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms that could eventually lead to the development of much needed therapeutics for difficult to treat autism. They focus on chromatin regulatory mechanisms associated with disruption of histone methyl transferase function and their effect in neuronal structure and function in stem cell derived neurons.

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of one year from the date of hire which may be extended based upon available funding.
