Job Description

The Associate Director is an integral part of the financial planning, analysis, and reporting team for the R&D Portfolio (annual budget $2 Billion). This individual will be responsible for analyzing the month-end financial performance and reporting, along with leading the budget/projection activities and analysis. They will also drive improvement in systems, processes and reports used across R&D finance portfolio. The individual will provide leadership within the Reporting and Analysis team to guide them to effectively manage the day-to-day activities and priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Month-end and quarter end close process for R&D Portfolio spending, including coordination of variance commentary vs projection

  • Lead projection and budget process within R&D Finance, including ownership of the multi-year attrition model to arrive at net portfolio spending

  • Coordinate with cross functional groups such as Portfolio Strategy and Operations, BI&A, as part of the annual budget and Portfolio Optimization process

  • Effectively partner with R&D finance resource managers to ensure standardized guidelines are communicated and followed across the portfolio

  • Lead continuous improvements in systems and processes used to generate data for analysis, including integration of different legacy systems and enhance the system integration roadmap

  • Provide insights on financial health of the R&D Portfolio, analyze and identify drivers of spending trends and forecasts

  • Monitor R&D Portfolio performance and reporting results vs. expectations with clear, concise and transparent drivers and assist in preparing presentations to senior leaders and business partners

  • Support quarterly IPR&D Impairment analysis

  • Present financial plans and results to key R&D finance management

  • Ensure relevant accounting procedures and controls are in place and operating as well all requirements for US GAAP are fulfilled

  • Support other ad-hoc Portfolio requests from R&D business, BIA, tax, corporate reporting and analysis, etc.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, auditing or a related field

  • CPA, Chartered Accountant and/or an MBA is a plus

  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in finance roles

  • Strong working knowledge of BMS financial systems including SAP preferred

  • Skilled in financial analytics, with the ability to work with large data-sets

  • Must have ability to manage multiple tasks, be well organized, and have a proven track record of meeting or exceeding expectations

  • Must be a self-starter (highly proactive), highly motivated, and have proven success in operating in situations of ambiguity

  • Highest level of integrity, work ethic and financial stewardship

  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment often with aggressive deadlines and quick turnarounds

  • Excellent inter-personnel and problem solving skills
