Aston Carter Human Resources Generalist in Portland, Oregon

Contract HR Generalist Position Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Human Resources Specialist to manage HR policies and strategies, including employee retention programs, training, employee appreciation, DE&I programs, onboarding and offboarding SOPs, and employee relations procedures. This role is essential for ensuring our team runs efficiently and building a foundation for continued growth.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.

  • Administer recruitment and hiring processes to fill vacant positions and onboard newcomers.

  • Plan and conduct new employee onboarding to foster a welcoming experience, including HRIS/payroll system setup.

  • Provide necessary support systems for payroll requirements.

  • Create and organize activities that promote team building.

  • Create documentation and procedures for all HR functions, including employee statistics for government reporting and audits.

  • Support managers in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, and performance review processes.

  • Administer a salary administration program to ensure compliance and equity within the organization.

  • Advise management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues in consultation with HRBP and leadership.

  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR-related policies, procedures, programs, and building maintenance issues.

  • Administer 401(k) plan and answer basic questions regarding employee benefits programs.

  • Investigate accidents and prepare documentation and reports for insurance carriers.

  • Prepare employee separation notices and related documentation, process employee terminations, and conduct exit interviews.

  • Create and maintain employee files and track destruction dates for terminated employees.

  • Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.

  • Be the first contact for scheduling maintenance and service/repair work on equipment or the building.

  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation and professionalism.

  • Display excellent communication skills, including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required for working with coworkers.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or two to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.

  • Notary certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Proficient in mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Proficient in using various computer applications, including database, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, graphics, word processing, presentation creation/editing, email communication, and scheduling software.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large office space designed for growth, with a culture that values unique personalities and teamwork. The office is quiet and lab-like, promoting a collaborative environment where people work passionately toward common goals. As the only person in the HR department, you will be responsible for answering questions and providing support and inquiries.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $35.00/hr.
