Actalent Engine Development Technician in Pontiac, Michigan
Job Title: Engine Development TechnicianJob Description
Work with Engineers in the Pontiac Propulsion Labs. This role is on the 3rd shift in Pontiac, running from Sunday through Thursday, 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. The position involves calibration development, mechanical experiments, fabrication, and manual test points to achieve 60% engine calibration before sending it to Engine Validation for further testing and failure analysis.
Responsibilities
Work with engineers to test different combinations of engine components for optimum performance.
Operate in a laboratory setting using AVL/PUMA and emissions equipment.
Perform engine tuning and calibration using software such as HP Tuners or standalone systems.
Run and operate manual testing on a dyno.
Collaborate with Test Engineers to manipulate fuel tables, air-intake, spark, and exhaust for optimal engine performance.
Conduct component-level work including oil pumps, head or cam changes, fuel injectors, and spark plugs.
Assemble, modify, and fabricate existing engines for testing.
Fabricate components on engine and test stands/dynos.
Instrument connections between the engine and the dyno.
TIG weld parts and components.
Essential Skills
Experience with engine dynamometers (3-5 years).
Hands-on experience with engine rebuild/tear down, assembly, repair, prototype, hand tools, fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting.
Proficiency in using AVL/PUMA and emissions equipment.
Engine tuning using HP Tuners or similar software.
Associate degree in a relevant field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in a laboratory setting with dyno equipment and emissions testing.
Calibration experience from lab work or personal projects (e.g., race teams or shops).
Mechanical background with experience modifying or building aftermarket vehicles.
Familiarity with standalone fueling systems.
Work Environment
The role is based in a very clean test lab/garage and engineering headquarters. The facility is air-conditioned and features a full-service cafeteria operating from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The large facility includes plenty of parking, although there may be a quarter-mile walk to the building. Employees must have their own basic tools; the company will provide the toolbox and any unique or specialty tools.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $35.00/hr.
