Who will you be working with?

Vapor Stone Rail Systems is a part of WABTEC Corp and has been in Plattsburgh NY since 1998. We offer a wide range of products and services for trains including HVAC units, Doors, Door systems along with an array of aftermarket parts and services.

This role is for second shift. To run from 2:00PM -10:30PM – occasional overtime may be required.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the team at Vapor Stone Rail Systems, Responsible for overseeing particular sections within the Manufacturing function, supporting the Supervisor and/or Production Manager with the day-to-day liaison of their manufacturing area, overseeing a group of members and ensuring an efficient operation in achieving business targets. Provide guidance, support and training to ensure that the team delivers, while monitoring issues and assisting the team in meeting production targets. Possess a good understanding of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and quality standards in order for the team to meet the requirements of the customer.

General and Task Management

  • Work with Supervisor to ensure people and resources are applied in an efficient and effective manner to meet delivery requirements while achieving quality and safety standards

  • Ensure full adherence to 5S (Sort, Set In Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) practices at all times

  • Ensure equipment is within calibration date and all systems are functioning correctly

  • Ensure all records are completed appropriately.

  • Ensure that non-conforming material is clearly identified and segregated.

  • Ensure that the escalation procedure for quality concerns is followed

  • Monitor change over and/or line set up efficiency

  • Monitor and maintain all safety equipment and tools

  • Undertake continuous training and development

  • Perform root cause analysis of issues as needed

People & Relationship Management

  • Responsible for training of assembler for products and processes within the local team

  • Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems

  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them

  • Liaise and communicate with other departments and ensure an effective interface is maintained

What do we want to know about you?

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates should have knowledge of mechanical/ electrical assembly techniques. You should also have basic computer skills including Microsoft office.

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years of relevant manufacturing and/or assembly experience preferred

  • Must be Assembler II level or higher

  • Must have good communication skills

  • Ability to give direction and lead a team.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Leading & working with a small team on second shift to achieve company goals.

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Standing, bending, twisting for 8 hours per day

  • Ability to lift 40lbs.

  • Wearing PPE including but not limited to hearing protection, hard hat, bump cap cut resistant gloves at various times based on current project.

  • Safety glasses & steel/composite toe shoes are required for entirety of shift.

  • Must successfully pass initial and random drug screenings.

  • May require step stools or ladders.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role starts at $24 per hour. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
