Research Foundation for SUNY Plattsburgh Direct Support Professional/Project Aide in Plattsburgh, New York
PRIMARY TASKS Will maintain a valid drivers license and provide transportation to and from the Center via agency vehicle. Will provide participants with supervision throughout the day and ensure that each individuals safety is kept by reading and understanding all safeguards outlined in each participants program binder. Work to ensure that each individuals preferences and interests are being supported on a daily basis through activities and socialization. Plan, participate in, and lead daily group activities including, but not limited to, exercise groups, cognitive groups, arts and crafts activities, and community activities. Will ensure that each individuals Habilitation plan is followed as written and be responsible for thorough and contemporaneous documentation for each service. Preform personal care duties with individuals whenever necessary and based upon individuals needs. Personal care includes but is not limited to personal cleanliness, oral hygiene, dressing, toileting, and changing of soiled clothes. Will assist in daily meal prepping which includes modifying participants food as required by their safeguards. Will address behavior difficulties of participants in an appropriate manner and report such behaviors to a supervisor as needed. Must maintain professional and positive relationships with the caregivers of those supported.
Must assist in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the Center through basic cleaning and disinfecting procedures. Will serves as a professional role model to the participants, other staff, and student interns/workers who may rotate throughout the Center. Must maintain confidentiality at all times. Develop and maintain positive relationships between individuals and community members (throughout the college building and beyond). Will work in a cooperative manner with coworkers to maintain a therapeutic atmosphere to assist with learning and skill acquisition and to serve as a positive role model to those supported. Will attend all training as requested or required by regulation and/or policy as well as additional assigned training requirements. Any other duties that may be assigned by the Day Programs Manager or Director of Day Programs.
Minimum Qualications: High School diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience working with adults with developmental disabilities is preferred. Completion of personal care aide training, home health aide training program, or nurse aide training program approved by the NYS Department of Health; or adult day care worker training program completed in conjunction with the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities is required. A driver license is required and Criminal History Record Check will be performed. Applicants must be able to become certified in CPR and be able to maintain the certification throughout their employment via in-person training. Applicants must also submit to the PPD skin test (Tuberculosis Test) or show proof of having a negative test result within the last year. This test must be repeated every 2 years while employed.
Salary Range: $33,150 to $37,050.00 ($17.00 - $19.00 hourly) with an EXCELLENT fringe benets package to be included. Paid holidays o. Monday - Friday schedule.
