The University of Miami is currently seeking Special Procedures Technologist level 2 to work at UHealth Planation. The incumbent is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations as well as assistance during complex procedures in Interventional Radiology through the operation of radiographic equipment to obtain highest quality diagnostic images with the least amount of radiation exposure. The senior special procedure technologist is fully competent in all IR related procedures such as but not limited to: angiographic, fluoroscopy, ultrasound and CT guided procedures. The Senior Special Procedures Technologist assures efficient workflow of the section and promotes UHealth standards to achieve the highest quality care and customer service. Independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative are essential in addition to responsibility for designated areas, procedures, and inventory of supplies and equipment. Employee must adhere to Protected Health Information (PHI) “minimum necessary” compliance standards at all times.

Core Job Functions

  1. Coordinate/manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures. 2. Supervises as well as performs diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist, using age appropriate standards of practice.3. Assist with the education and training of new physicians. 4. Assist radiologists and PhD's in developing new protocols and Ultrasound imaging techniques that are unique to facility. 5. Participate in research initiatives and development of research protocols. 6. Act in a team leader capacity on a routine basis. 7. Monitor charging of Ultrasound procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness. 8. Demonstrate Ultrasound equipment for 'site visits' for visiting physicians and administrators.9. Provide in-service classes in section.10. Obtains and examines the order for Interventional Radiology exams to be aware of information such as procedures requested, patient’s condition and any other special notes or comments.11. Ensures that orders are appropriate to the type of exam recommended by physician. Notifies supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contacts physician’s office for correct orders if necessary.12. Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements. 13. Verify the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient’s wristband.14. Always obtain necessary consents and education.15. Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of Radiology scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist using age appropriate standards of practice. 16. Ability to integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt exam as necessary. Adheres to Interventional Radiology protocols to maintain high quality standards.17. Consistently demonstrates complete competence in performing IR scans as ordered.18. As required during a procedure, assists positioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body for Radiologic scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.

  2. Maintain proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection and equipment disinfection).20. Assist radiologist with invasive Interventional Radiology procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable. 21. Evaluate Interventional Radiologic scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film/transmit to PACS. 22. Charge procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant. 23. Loads and operates power injectors for contrast media administration. 24. Maintain accurate patient records. 25. Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions. 26. Applies physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist:a. Childrenb. Adolescentsc. Adultsd. Geriatrice. Challenged/Disabled27. Performs basic nursing functions in the patient’s care i.e., assists with bedpans, emesis basins, etc. Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during scanning procedures; initiates life support measures for patients if necessary; assists in “Code Blue” procedure during medical emergencies. Performs CPR as needed.28. Keeps work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stocks exam/dressing rooms with required supplies.29. Provides on call coverage.30. Reports unusual findings in a timely manner to appropriate Radiologist/Supervisory personnel.31. Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions. 32. Provide assistance with orientation and training of new Interventional Radiology technologists. 33. Provides education and training to student technologists.34. Abide by hospital/department HR policies.35. Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.36. Assist with the day-to-day operations within the department.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology /Diagnostic Imaging Program.

Certification and Licensing:

Must possess a valid State of Florida License as a General Radiographer.

ARRT registered. ARRT certified in Vascular Interventional Radiography required.

CPR and BLS certification required.

Experience:

Three (3) years of relevant experience required.
