The Regulatory Affairs Manager is responsible to assist with organization-wide readiness. The Manager will assist the organization to maintain compliance with standards and regulations for the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services, NJ Department of Health, The Joint Commission (TJC), and others regulatory bodies. The Manager maintains current knowledge of standards and regulations and advocates for best practices and processes to meet minimum standards. The Manager collaborates with stakeholders to facilitate readiness across the hospital and all licensed areas. Leads and coordinates the organization’s continuous adherence to specialty certification requirements (disease specific surveys). Works collaboratively with organizational leaders and staff to identify and address performance and process improvements gaps in patient safety and quality of care. Serves as an internal expert in maintaining current knowledge of regulatory standards, survey processes, quality standards, best practices and the appropriate measures of success. Supports the delivery of quality patient care by engaging in collaborative efforts to drive system, process and outcome improvements.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintains current knowledge of The Joint Commission standards, NJ Department of Health and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations.

  2. Provide organization wide leadership in continuous survey readiness for The Joint Commission and ongoing compliance with state, federal and other regulatory agencies.

  3. Coordinates all regulatory complaints and reaccreditation survey activities, including mock surveys (collaborating with external consultants in coordination of mock surveys). And coordinates regulatory processes for reporting, surveys by accrediting bodies, occupancy requests, etc. Ensures proper documents, surveys and applications are completed timely and accurately. Advocates for a culture of continuous readiness.

  4. Assists in the design of new policies and procedures and the maintenance of existing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies.

  5. Assists in preparing appropriate information to be sent to governing bodies, including, not limited to the Clinical Effectiveness and Performance Improvement, the Medical Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.

  6. Acts as an internal consultant to stakeholders, collaborates with UPHS entity colleagues on continuous survey readiness activities and compliance improvement initiatives.

  7. Assists in the completion of accreditation, certification and other such applications, Intercycle assessments and data submission requirements. Works collaboratively to coordinate the development, submission and monitoring of plans of correction to resolve regulatory findings. Holds department leaders and process owners accountable for the timely completion of plans of correction. Supports understanding and participation of hospital personnel in advance of and during regulatory and accreditation surveys.

  8. Utilizes technical and analytical skills to coordinate and facilitate data retrieval and/or collection, and analysis and distribution of information.

Education

Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.

Related Work Experience

At least 5 years related work experience required, 8 years preferred.

Licensure, Certification OR Registration Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN) or other clinical professional required.

Certified Joint Commission Professional (CJCP) preferred.

Certified Professional in Health Care Quality (CPHQ) preferred.
