Berkshire Transit Management, Inc Diesel Technician / Vehicle Mechanic in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

*** \$1000.00 Sign On Bonus after successful completion of probationary period . Details can be discussed at time of interview. *** Technicians are defined employees who can perform any repairs, minor or major, to any vehicle assigned with supervision when necessary. This position reports directly to the Director of Maintenance and Maintenance Supervisor. Technicians report known safety issues that may arise. Hourly rate increases for obtaining up to 7 qualifying ASEs, with a bonus paid on obtaining ASE Certified Master Technician status. Company pays 100% of time and materials for ASE testing and advancement. ASE certification is offered at no cost to the employee. Essential Functions Ensures vehicles operate in a safe, comfortable, like-new condition by performing high quality maintenance repairs on all aspects of gasoline/diesel vehicle systems. Assists with or performs thorough and complete quality preventative maintenance inspections on all vehicles and equipment assigned to the property. Diagnoses or assists with diagnoses and repairs to mechanical, electrical, computer, HVAC, pneumatic, hydraulic systems, transmissions and gas/diesel engines with supervision as needed. Performs or assists with road calls, on-the-road repairs and road tests as needed. Properly fill out necessary paperwork, computer input and signing out of parts when used on vehicles. Keep all company tools and equipment clean and in good working order. Work well with all other departments, co-workers and supervisors. Demonstrate the ability to work in a safe manner. Ability to comprehend maintenance manuals parts books and electrical diagrams. Reports all discrepancies to include paperwork, inventory, computer input, safety, etc., to the on-duty supervisor to ensure corrective actions can be made immediately. This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations. Qualifications Applicants must: Have a high school diploma, or graduate equivalency degree (GED); Mechanical trade school or a minimum of 2080 documented hours working with a certified mechanic in the field of automotive and heavy-duty truck and vehicle repair. Have general knowledge of HVAC, cranking and charging systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and component overhaul procedures required Have general and working knowledge of modern office computer systems, such as the Microsoft Office products; Have reliable transportation both to and from work; Be able to meet the minimum Federal Motor Carrier Regulations for age and physical condition; Pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test; Pass a pre-employment DOT physical; Have working knowledge of basic math, map reading, diagram reading, and time telling; Be able to multitask while working with others efficiently; Be able to complete accurate and legible written reports in English; Possess a Valid Class A or B CDL without an Air Brakes Restriction; Be eligible to be insured under Berkshire Transit Management, Inc.\'s insurance policy for the duration of employment. Be able to lift up to 50 pounds; Be able sit for durations of up to two continuous hours, as well as stand, kneel, and crouch as needed. Have experience working in a vehicle repair and maintenance facility; Licensing Qualified applicants must possess a Class A or B with appropriate endorsements. If an applicant does not have a CDL license, they must first obtain a Massachusetts CDL Class B Permit with the required endorsements. If a job offer is extended, BTM will then provide paid CDL Class B operator training to the applicant. Qualified applicants must possess a Massachusetts 2A-1C Hoisters License, but if the applicant does not have such license then the Company will provide paid training. Qualified applicants must be eligible to be insured under Berkshire Transit Management insurance policy for the duration of mployment
