The Safe Passages Program Manager is responsible for implementing the expansion of the Safe Passages school program in partnership with Operation Better Block (OBB), using a public-health approach to reduce violence and improve safety within the school community. The Program Manager will be responsible for monitoring the program's progress, ensuring that the community members and organizations are working to interrupt the transmission of violence and change community norms. They will also be responsible for connecting the school community with necessary resources and selecting students to mimic the culture established by the adults in the building, thus taking ownership in changing community norms inside the school community. The successful candidate will be passionate about improving the lives of at-risk youth, stopping violence before it happens, and making a positive impact in their community. The grant is provided by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD).
This is a two (2) year grant funded position. Grant funded positions are contingent upon renewal of the grant or availability of other funding sources.

QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS : Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show five (5) years of full-time experience in program administration and management, community affairs, public policy, non-profit management, or social work. Experience in violence prevention or public health preferred. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor's Degree in Program Administration, Community/Human Development, Sociology, Social Work, Public Health, Urban Affairs, Public Policy/Management, Nonprofit Management, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training.)
EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is nine (9) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training.)

Implements violence-prevention strategies to detect and interrupt potential violence, communicates potential conflicts, mediates known conflicts, and identifies and treats the highest-risk individuals.
Shadows and mentors’ children, primarily between classes, builds a rapport or relationship with at-risk youth by providing one-on-one or group mentoring, ensures safe passage into and out of the school building, and provides intervention and mediation services in the school community.
Identifies community members and agencies that can assist with program implementation, building community, family, and cultural ties with youth.
Builds the student safety ambassador program by selecting students as safety ambassadors who will attend regular mentoring sessions, public safety meetings, and after-school organization meetings; encouraging students to mimic the culture of the adults that are working to reduce risk.
Tracks and analyzes data daily using designated software program(s) to determine program efficacy on both a local and larger scale.
Prepares and submits regular progress reports to the PCCD as required by the grant.
Acts as primary liaison between the City of Pittsburgh, OBB, PCCD, and other stakeholders.
Assists in developing and recommending policies and procedures for program development and operations.
Attends a broad range of public community meetings and acts as a representative of the Department of Public Safety and Operation Better Block in such forums.
Performs areas of responsibility in strict accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and established policy.
