The Training Coordinator supports the Department of Innovation and Performance by coordinating the delivery and execution of training programs offered to City staff as well as to the I&P team.

The Training Coordinator will make strategic recommendations regarding how I&P can provide appropriate training opportunities for City staff and lead the efforts to implement them. Programs to be coordinated may include process improvement, vendor-supplied training for software applications or technological devices, project management courses, basics of cybersecurity, data analytics and more.

The Training Coordinator will assist the management team in I&P with identifying and connecting appropriate learning and development opportunities for I&P staff to meet their technical and professional competencies and certification requirements. This may include programs such as ITIL certification, PMP certification, Microsoft and other relevant technical certifications, management courses, and communications training. As a member of the Innovation Team, the Training Coordinator will also work on the team’s annual goals and initiatives.

  • WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show one (1) year of full-time experience as a teacher, graduate teaching assistant, trainer, instructional designer, or as a supervisor of a team. (Full-time is defined as 32 hours or more per week. Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)

  • EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited institution in any field of study. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).

  • EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is five (5) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).

  • Supports the development and implementation of training programs for City employees to support technology, performance, and innovation toward elevating the work of City government.

  • Acts as a knowledge resource and helps managers update the departments behavioral competencies and role-based functional skills.

  • Coordinates the acquisition and operation of instructional technology including hardware and software interfacing with Human Resources and other training stakeholders to harmonize I&P’s training efforts with other citywide efforts.

  • Acts as a member of I&P project teams to assess training needs, the most effective instructional methods for the situation, and creates deployment plans for end-user training in client departments.

  • Manages all external I&P training resources and agreements with vendors and other partners.

  • Leads the efforts to coordinate and acquire needed training and development resources for I&P staff to keep their technical/professional skills up to date.

  • Recommends best use of annual training budgets when the department is acquiring or recommitting to vendor provided resources.

  • Measures training effectiveness to ensure continuous learning improvement.

  • Maintains records on training utilization/attendance.

  • Researches and works with business relationship managers and technical teams to understand current and future business performance and technical training needs.

  • May lead some training courses as needed.

  • May develop job aids, instructional materials and training guides.
