*The Gallery Experiences Presenter *is responsible for the delivery of an exceptional visitor experiences at CMNH. Position is primarily one of program delivery and presentation, but may require some behind the scenes work, such as cleaning, inventory and basic animal/insect care. Position will require weekend and some evening work.

This is a temporary position expected to run from May 28, 2024 through August 17, 2024.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in service industry, customer service, teaching, theater or work in theme parks/museums/family entertainment centers a plus.
  • Experience or training in interpretive technique a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
  • Demonstrated understanding and aptitude in science-learning facilitation.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information and present it in a user-friendly way to a broad audience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires walking, lifting and longer periods of standing.
  • Requires ability to see visitors in gallery spaces, often with lower light levels.
  • Requires ability to hear visitors in spaces with high level of ambient sound.
  • Requires ability to speak to visitors in a clear and understandable manner.
  • May require ability to manipulate objects.
  • Accommodations can be made for most abilities.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Deliver high quality interpretive programming.
  • Understand and emphasize pedagogical approach that is relevant to public audiences and the exhibitions' learning environment.
  • Support evaluation implementation and respond to participant experience in museum.
  • Support internal and external customer service. Serve as a model for excellent customer service for all staff.
  • Maintain inventories of supplies for programs and exhibits.
  • Collaborate with Science Learning Group, Volunteer Office, Customer Service and Operations group to ensure smooth operations of staffing for the visitor experience.
  • Maintain relationships through prompt communication and follow through.
  • Actively participate in division professional development activities to support division wide pedagogical and programmatic goals.
  • Act as a representative of Public Programs across museum and in community.
  • Ensure clarity of operations through effective communication (written and/or verbal) with other staff and Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh as a whole.
  • Work is highly interpersonal, requiring constructive communication with individuals and groups during coaching and training.

The following PA Act 153 clearances, or proof of application of clearances, are required beginning employment and as a condition of continued employment: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check Obtaining the required clearances is completed as part of the new hire process.
