Dispensary Assistant

The school is seeking a Dispensary Clerk with primary responsibility for distributing instruments and supplies in our DMD student dental clinic, where third- and fourth-year student dentists treat patients with oversight and direction from faculty. The incumbent will also be expected to learn and participate in all phases of preventive maintenance of instrumentation and essential steps of sterilization. Duties may also include working in the central sterilization and clinical supply stockroom. This position requires basic computer skills, strong service orientation, and the ability to work as an effective member of a team. Experience in healthcare and knowledge of standard sterilization practices within a clinic setting are desirable, though not mandatory.

Job Summary

Issues dental instruments and equipment to dental students utilizing proper sterilizations protocols and an electronic database. Inspects cassettes for missing instruments and stocks dispensary and operatories. Assists clinic staff and assists in dental sterilization.

Essential Functions

Must observe proper infection control practices. Must be a service-oriented individual and work cooperatively with other team members. Must acquire familiarity with all materials in dispensary and apply sound inventory control practices, minimizing overstocking and waste. Must have computer skills and be highly service oriented. Must have a strong service orientation, ability to work as an effective member of a team, and willingness to assist with miscellaneous tasks as requested. Expected to meet assigned due dates and make productive use of time. Understanding of inventory control is essential. Strong documentation skills. Must acquire familiarity with all instrumentation and apply sound inventory control practices, minimizing overstocking, loss and waste. Must have computer skills and be highly service oriented. Must demonstrate ability to work as an effective member of a team and be willing to assist with miscellaneous tasks as requested. Expected to meet assigned due dates and make productive use of time. Receives and responds to telephone calls, team messages, etc. to the module. Uses downtime to assist as necessary in other areas within our department. These can include; administrative tasks, receiving, inventory control and/or Instrument Management Service projects or other duties as assigned by supervisor. Must have a strong service orientation, ability to work as an effective member of a team, and willingness to assist with miscellaneous tasks as requested. Expected to meet assigned due dates and make productive use of time.

Physical Effort

Incumbent will be required to move around within building and in dispensary to access necessary supplies and instruments. Must spend majority of time on their feet and expected to lift up to 40lbs without assistance (use of carts, dollies, flatbed, or palette jack available for heavier items).
