Bachelor's degree in education, business administration, or related field required, Master's preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrable skills related to position responsibilities (e.g., project management, human resource administration). Computer word processing, database, and spreadsheet package (s). Must be able to understand and learn software packages as required to meet the needs of the Office of Medical Education. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong interpersonal skills.

Job Summary

Develops and implements the vision and strategic plan of a program in conjunction with managing administrative functions. Fosters effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Develops budgets, marketing, education, and outreach strategies. Identifies potential funding and creates policies.

Essential Functions

The Director - Standardized Patient Program serves the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the Office of Medical Education (OMED) in a professional capacity by directing the administrative and instructional functions of the Standardized/Simulated Patient/Person/Participant (SP) Program. This includes human resources; preparation and coordination of reports, project, and budgets; and superintending instructional support and design. Incumbent will regularly collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and support a continuous quality improvement framework.

Direct and provide administrative leadership for the SP Program:

Direct operations of the SP Program Monitor and provide guidance for budgets Develop and execute short- and long-term strategic initiatives Develop and execute timelines, production schedules, and procedures documentation Provide leadership when events are complex, conflicts/issues arise, and new initiatives are presented Direct meetings with clients and debriefings with SPs as needed Identify, research, and analyze issues, topic of office/curricular concern; generate responses and action Recommendations regarding same; oversee implementation of actions Highlight the success of the standardized patient program internally and externally and looks for ways to create efficiency and innovation within program operations Keep up to date on and influence (inter)national best practices Regularly collaborate with OMED leadership and WISER Coordinate standardized patient program role in research and quality improvement initiatives within the Office of Medical Education and with other University partners Recruit, select, train, supervise, and assess staff Distribute and review work, conduct performance reviews, and document disciplinary action and other human resource administration Mange work schedules and approve timecards Provide professional development opportunities

Physical Effort

Incumbent is expected to move about Scaife Hall particularly and the University and surrounding hospitals generally. Incumbent is expected to lift and move as necessary heavy objects (e.g., equipment and boxes of materials of approximately 10 to 25 lbs.) and push carts with materials and supplies. This position equires a high level of physical activity (standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, etc.) and high mobility throughout areas of educational activities. Some air travel may be required.
