Who will you be working with?

Wabtec’s Digital Intelligence Signaling & Systems Project Management team is recognized as an industry leader in the successful delivery of complex integrated system projects, involving signaling, train control, communications, and back-office solutions with a strong focus on project execution, project management, schedule adherence and customer satisfaction. As a Director of Program Management, you will lead and work with a high performing project team in the successful delivery of a portfolio of domestic and international rail system projects.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of Wabtec’s Digital Intelligence Signaling & Systems group, you will play a key role in the execution and delivery of our System Project business. This role will be responsible for a portfolio of projects with a focus on delivery, execution, P&L performance of multiple projects. In this role, you will lead a professional project organization, leveraging existing processes and tools, along with your entrepreneurial, people leadership and customer management skills. Additionally, this role will be responsible for establishing and controlling the project portfolio budget and reporting on progress to management and stakeholders, elevating risks and challenges as necessary.

This role will also be the direct interface with the customer and all internal and external stakeholders and will be responsible for managing and maintaining key project management tools such as rigorous change management process, risk and opportunity matrix, contingency plans, earned value analysis and communication plans. Creativity and strategy anticipatory thinking are essential qualities required for success, along with a structured approach and rigorous project execution.

What will a typical day look like?

In this role, you will directly lead an experienced team of project managers, program managers, schedulers, and project controllers. Additionally, you will work across a matrixed organization to lead a multi-disciplined engineering team, technical managers, and system integrators in the execution of these projects with a focus on Coordination of internal resources and third parties/vendors in the execution of the project to ensure project is delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget.

Additionally, you will be responsible for the development of detailed project plans to track progress and report out to management as necessary with a focus on utilization of appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in the scope of the project, the schedule, and/or the costs.

This role will report to a North American Group VP.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Coordination of internal resources and third parties/vendors in the execution of the project to ensure project is delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget.

  • Development of project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.

  • Responsible for submitting regular reports and invoices to the customer and collecting reimbursements based on the agreed schedule.

  • Development of a detailed project plan to track progress and report out to management as necessary.

  • Utilization of appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in the scope of the project, the schedule, and/or the costs.

  • Measurement of project performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.

  • Management of relationship with the client and all stakeholders, as well as third parties/vendors.

  • Creation and maintenance of comprehensive project documentation.

Required Experience and Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline

  • 10+ years of industry experience in managing large engineering, industrial, systems projects.

  • Proven experience as a program manager in the rail industry

  • Solid technical background, with understanding and/or hands-on experience in the design, build, testing, and delivery of complex control systems

  • PMP / PRINCE II certification is a plus.

  • Familiarity with system engineering principals

  • Strong financial background

  • Proven leadership skills

  • Strong communication skills
