Summary This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER, Position Description Number D1287000 and is part of the NJ FMS 7, National Guard. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Responsibilities As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER, WL-5801-10, you will: Assign work orders to specific crew members and select workers for various jobs on the basis of knowledge, skills, and abilities. Check work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisor's instructions, work orders, and established shop procedures on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines; and direct other workers to follow supervisor's instructions and to meet deadlines. Troubleshoot and perform maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles. Independently perform repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing defective parts of components and systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment Areas I: All permanent (Title 32) technicians within the New Jersey Army National Guard Military Grades: E-6 to E-8 Additional Employment Requirements: -Participation in direct deposit is mandatory -May be required to successfully complete a probationary period -Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation -Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Applicant(s) (Enlisted) who are over grade must clearly state, in their resumes, their intentions to willingly take a reduction in grade Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Compatible Military Assignments Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a military unit compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position. Military Unit -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support. (Guidance established by NJ HRO-J1) Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with sufficient knowledge to complete the work as a surface maintenance mechanic. Experience or training which demonstrates the candidates ability to lead other technicians engaged in the duties performed as a surface maintenance mechanic. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 24 months of experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, provide guidance, and lead the work of others in fields directly related to the repair function of mobile equipment maintenance; and must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment.
