As our surgical services nurse at SJHMC, you will prepare patients for surgical procedures and assist in the operating room to ensure they receive excellent nursing when they are at their most vulnerable.

Every day you will go over consent forms, answer questions about the procedure, do preoperative assessments, make sure the equipment is ready to go, and update family members on the surgery status during the operation. You will be expected to directly assist the surgeon during the actual surgery.

To be successful in this role you must have the ability to maintain focus while multitasking, remain calm under pressure, and exercise good judgment in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

Our twelve-room OR suite maintains a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio, which enables us to form close relationships with patients and their families during very difficult times. We also feature a 44-bay multi-level PACU with staff dedicated to trauma and other emergency cases. Our PACU features a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio. Throughout the unit we are committed to using the latest technology, affording staff the opportunity to constantly learn and enhance their skills. As a Level I Trauma Center, we are operational 24/7.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist surgeon and surgical team in the OR

  • Care for patients before, during, and after procedures

  • Develop and implement nursing care plan for surgical patients

  • Ensure operating rooms are prepped with all necessary equipment and supplies

  • Demonstrate a high level of compassion for patients

Qualifications

Minimum:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

AZ RN license

American Heart Association BLS certification

Preferred:

BSN

Professional certification in area of specialty

One year recent acute care experience

Pay Range

$32.50 - $58.90 /hour
