Overview of the Department:

The Global Merchant and Network Services Group brings together all of the American Express businesses that serve our key partners – merchants, banks, strategic and loyalty partners – to enable a sharp focus on using the power of our network to provide unique value to all of our mutual customers. The objective of the GMNS Operational Excellence team is to drive risk-based decisioning and management of control and compliance objectives to support business priorities while promoting a strong risk management culture. To that end, the team is responsible for the oversight and governance of control and compliance programs and initiatives within the business unit. This includes leading global, local, and relevant legal entity activities and also includes execution against all components of the American Express Operational Risk framework.

Job Responsibilities:

The Manager, Operational Risk - Global Merchant and Network Services, will be responsible for supporting critical Risk Management, regulatory and compliance programs for the business unit globally, primarily those related to Global Merchant Services. This includes core Operational risk programs, regulatory and policy projects, and streamlined cross-functional operational processes. The position requires ability to support global initiatives and participate in special projects across multiple regions and time zones.

The role will focus on achieving the following objectives:

  • Guiding the business with PRSA and refresh requirements, audit activities, and the end-to-end risk assessment process as per AEMP54 for new products, platforms and capabilities.

  • Execution of the Issue Management framework to ensure timely event reporting and appropriate management of operational risk events and corrective action plans in line with policy and standards.

  • Supporting Transformation projects to ensure Risks are appropriately assessed and mitigation plans are implemented.

  • Executing targeted projects directed at resolution of control gaps, remediation of risk, and network alignment.

  • Ensure timely completion of relevant regulatory and compliance program deliverables.

  • Perform, as required, thorough analyses to identify opportunities for new controls or overall process enhancements.

  • Potential for travel, up 10 %.

Qualifications/Skills & Experience:

  • 5 years' related Risk Management experience required.

  • Understanding of operational risk concepts and programs. Expertise in American Express Operational Risk Methodology, protocol and tools a plus.

  • Previous experience within the Payments Industry and an understanding of the related regulatory landscape required. Specific knowledge of the Global Merchant Services organization, related regulatory landscape, and supporting technology infrastructure preferred.

  • Experience in operational risk management, internal control, or audit within the Banking or financial services industries.

  • Solid process enhancement and control-oriented mindset.

  • Proven ability to work autonomously and adjust quickly to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity, and rapid change.

  • Problem solver and agile decision-maker with solid analytical skills.

  • Ability to convey thought leadership in identifying emerging operational risk issues and to deliver high quality, actionable feedback to leaders.

  • Ability to develop relationships with leaders, process owners, peers and control teams.

  • Strong project management skills and expertise in process redesign.

  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.

  • Resilient team player with ability to influence across all levels and to develop relationships with leaders, peers, and control and compliance teams.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills allowing for clear and appropriate messaging for multiple levels/audiences

  • Proven ability to adjust quickly to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity, and rapid change.

  • Working hours flexibility given the international nature of the role.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $80,000 to $155,000 annually bonus benefits
