What you’ll do as a Fiber Splicer I
You will, with guidance, splice overhead, underground or submarine multiple conductor cables.
You will, climb utility poles or towers, utilizes truck mounted lift-bucket or descends into underground vaults.
You will cut sheath from installed cable to gain access to defective cable connections.as well as cuts and peels sheath and insulation from newly installed cable and conductors
You will Test (traces or phase out) each conductor to identify corresponding conductors in adjoining cables, using test lamp or bell system.
You will read and interpret (i.e. mechanical, electrical, digital) drawings, maps, blueprints diagrams, etc.
What you’ll need
To be 18 years of age or older
Authorization to work in the United States for this company
Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening.
Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed.
May be required to work over-time; after hours; on weekends, for emergencies or be on-call as work is needed to ensure work is completed.
May include working nights and holidays as needed.
May be required to travel in state or overnight as necessary to meet business and job requirements.
Additional qualifications
You will have 0-1 or more years experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation
You will have a high school diploma or equivalent
You are able to lift up to 80 lbs
Basic understanding of splicing principles or ability to learn
Basic experience with electrical work
Experience working from hand-holes and manholes
Must pass company drug testing
Must know the color code system for cable pairs
Ability to work in confined spaces
Possesses strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to work with internal and external customers
Must have strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively communicate with product vendors and customers
Ability to work from oral or written instructions and plan work without direct supervision
Possesses proficient personal computer operations skills
Comply with all safety regulations and meet safety requirements to maintain a successful safety record
Assume all duties as assigned

Duties outlined in this position will require the employee to stand, crouch, climb sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low. The employee will be standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding or stooping while on shift.
Employees performing these job functions may be working from heights of 3 feet to 4 feet off the ground with proper safety equipment and/or personnel.
The noise level in the work environment for this position is moderate.
Employees performing functions of this position are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions which can include but is not limited to: extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as rain, snow, sleet and dust as well as adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog.
Employees performing these job functions may be required to lift or move up to 10 up to 50 pounds.
Employees in this job classification may be exposed to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogens.
Employees may be exposed to toxic or corrosive chemicals as well as moving machinery parts and pieces.

Pay Range: The Fiber Splicer I hourly wage range is $21.00 - $24.00 /hr, depending on experience.
