Job Description Summary

Wharton celebrates diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging among its esteemed students, faculty, staff, and alumni.The Associate Director of Stewardship is the operational and analytical manager of the Donor Relations team in Wharton External Affairs. This position is a central member of the Stewardship group on the Donor Relations team. Donor Relations includes multiple channels with staff focusing in respective interconnected areas, including: Stewardship – focusing in writing donor acknowledgments, reports, and leadership messaging to engage donors; Development Communications – focusing in composing custom proposals, booklets, program overviews, web assets, and other materials to promote fundraising; and Other Donor Relations – focusing in family engagement, campus project recognition, and other activities.

Job Description

The Associate Director of Stewardship helps to advance Wharton’s philanthropic resources and foster a culture of donor-focused stewardship and relationship building. This position requires sharp focus, attention to detail, and being comfortable and adept with utilizing data and analysis tools to strengthen communication processes. This is a highly collaborative position requiring diplomatic and interpersonal savvy liaising with individuals across all levels of the institution, and the ability to navigate a variety of complex projects. The position reports to the Senior Associate Director of Stewardship and works closely with a team of staff writers.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Managing the processes to assign acknowledgments, stewardship reports, and other correspondence to thank and engage donors to the Wharton School

  • Serving as point person for the coordination of sending acknowledgements and managing responses on behalf of the Dean and senior leadership

  • Liaising with the Dean's Office and colleagues across Wharton and Penn to prepare personalized donor materials

  • Managing databases to track correspondence, fund data, and donor relations activities

  • Developing and evaluating stewardship processes

  • Writing and proofing acknowledgments and other letters and reports.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree is preferred and 3 to 5 years of experience in stewardship and communications, development operations, marketing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proven technical literacy and comfort manipulating data. Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and Outlook, mail merge and platforms and methods to efficiently send high volume personalized email and print mail.

  • Excellent project management and strategic planning skills, with an acute ability to manage multiple deadlines and track activities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

  • Outstanding detail orientation, and proven ability in writing, editing, and proofreading.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, and an ability to interact with senior level executives and administrators.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as effectively as a member of a team .

  • Position will require a limited number of evening and weekend work and travel to support alumni and donor events.
