Poplar Springs Hospital is seeking an energetic Registered Dietitian - PRN. The Registered Dietitian (RD) - PRN maintains a current license to practice in the state of Virginia, and is credentialed through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Displays advanced clinical nutrition and management skills, and is able to coordinate care in a behavioral health setting, serving adults, active duty military, and adolescent clients. Demonstrates the ability to accurately assess patient’s or resident’s needs using organizational and recognized standards of care/nutritional practice. Appropriately incorporates knowledge of therapeutic and clinical nutritional care when conducting patient education. Appropriately documents in the patient medical record, utilizing nutrition assessment format and HCS technology system. Participates in performance improvement activities as requested by the organization, including licensure by the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the Joint Commission for Healthcare services. Applies Joint Commission standards of care as part of the delivery of nutrition care services. Plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates facility menus in collaboration with Food Service Director. Takes an active role in sharing information and knowledge with all team members. Demonstrates effective, appropriate and timely consultation with nurses, physicians, clinicians, and pharmacist. Demonstrates sound professional judgment and strategic critical thinking in practice. Integrates technology platforms with other internal and external services (e.g., risk management, disease management, data tracking and reporting). Complies with legislative requirements and organizational policies for collecting, using, maintaining, storing and appropriately destroying personal health information. Ensures written communications are timely, legible, accurate and professional in nature. Participates in Treatment Team as available. Recognizes the importance of diversity, orientation, social and cultural norms that may have an impact on individuals, groups and plans of care. Provides nutrition guidance and education for Dietary Services staff, and communicates patient’s special diet needs. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

License/Certification:

  • Current license to practice in the state of Virginia, and is credentialed through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

    Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited dietetics program

    General Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services.

  • Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.

  • Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

  • Basic clerical skills, basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions.

  • Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning.
