Caterpillar Inc. seeks Data Specialist at its facility located at 501 SW Jefferson Ave, Peoria, IL 61630.

Support multiple Aftermarket Digital Products. Responsible for investigation, data code development, data quality/testing, metadata management, data governance, and answering various questions about the products. Coordinate multiple projects to ensure data quality practices/standards are met while ensuring the applications remain stable. Day to day tasks will vary between gathering requirements, meeting with customers to answer product questions/deliver product training, develop data code to investigate and solve technical product issues, and analyzing big data to provide business insights. Typical customers include internal employees within multiple business processes or functions. Direct relationships with IT Supervisors, IT Managers, and, in some cases, Directors. Perform all necessary data related task which could include data design, data quality, metadata management, data governance or data architecture. Work directly on complex problems and provide solutions aligned with overall objectives of Cat Digital. Understand and evaluate business requirements that impact the Caterpillar enterprise, dealership partners, and other internal and external customers. Liaise with data creators to support project planning, training, guidance on standards, and the efficient creation/maintenance of high-quality data. Contribute to policies, procedure, and standards as well as technical requirements. Create the data management strategy and define continuous improvement goals of data quality, governance, and process. Lead communication across various lines of businesses and technology partners to constantly monitor, collect, review, and roadmap business data requirements, and related technology solutions. Ensure compliance with the latest data standards supported by the company, and brand, legal, information security, data security and privacy compliance. Maintain knowledge of functional technology of the data management systems as they change with upgrades and new releases. Maintain existing data quality scorecard measurements, executing of scorecards, resolving exceptions with data owners and source systems. Accountable to design robust, scalable database and data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) solutions. Document data models for domains to be deployed including a local data model, candidate source lists, and canonical formats. Develop data ingestion store specifications identifying source systems and the tables and fields to ingest. Develop data object pipeline specifications including detailed field level mapping, business rules, data quality rules, etc. Create, update, and enhance metadata policies, process, and catalogs. Drive alignment and coordination of data governance efforts. Telecommuting is permitted for 3 days/week.

REQS: This position requires a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Industrial Engineering or closely related Engineering field in data design, data quality, metadata, and governance, plus 1 year 6 months of experience in Aftermarket Product Support as a Data engineer or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) 18 months of Aftermarket Product Support in collaboration with Dealer Sales Systems; (2) Apache Airflow pipeline development and scheduling; (3) Snowflake, Alteryx, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Azure DevOps, and GitHub; and (4) Structured Query Language (SQL).
