Are you interested in working with a team of passionate and hard-working individuals at the Department of Human Services, Human Resources (DHS/HR) office? We are looking for self-starters who are able to adapt and work with minimal supervision. If you have a working knowledge of HR principles and practices in compensation and payroll, we want you on our team!
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Fiscal Technician, you will perform a variety of payroll related functions which includes but is not limited to: Processing DHS staff bi-weekly time-sheets for payment using NOVAtime time and attendance software and tools to review time-sheets for discrepancies, time worked, time off, employee signature and supervisory approval; assists in the computation and preparation of union and non-union salary increases for employees, anniversary increases, retroactive payments, on-call, and overtime payments; corrects time-sheet, if necessary, calculates hours worked, paid and unpaid, overtime and comp time; and develops and maintains a list of exceptions for review and approval and/or resolution of issues. Additional responsibilities include:
Processing newly hired and terminated employees
Assisting with or preparing correspondence, reports, and other materials for DHS staff payroll and salaries
Completing, submitting, and processing staff payroll and salary information in a timely and accurate manner while complying with established practices, policies, and procedures
Reviewing and verifying information and documentation while meeting established timeframes for completion, submission, and processing of timesheets, travel vouchers and insurance certificates
Serving as a contact person for DHS/BHRTP, Payroll Division with other DHS offices and supervisors to obtain information, respond to inquiries and complaints and resolves payroll problems
Assisting with orienting DHS employees regarding payroll/NOVAtime procedures
Assisting with and/or backing up the Co. Fiscal Officer 1 in the processing of the entire DHS Payroll, when needed or requested and performing special job-related projects as requested
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year as a Fiscal Assistant or three years of work involving the maintenance of fiscal or financial records, including one year of responsible work which involves the application of accounting or fiscal principles and practices; and graduation from high school;or
One year of experience in maintaining and reviewing fiscal records and an associate degree in accounting or business administration;or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
