THE POSITION

This role involves delivering expert technical, engineering, and regulatory assistance to regional personnel, businesses, consultants, environmental organizations, and individual citizens regarding different facets of the Department's Air Quality Programs. Do not miss the opportunity—apply today!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The responsibilities primarily involve evaluating the technical and economic aspects of air emissions alongside the relevant air pollution control technologies. This includes employing both analytical and numerical computer modeling techniques to address and resolve challenges related to air quality engineering. Additionally, the role entails reviewing Plan Approvals and Operating Permits that are issued by the regional office personnel. Compliance with the Federal Clean Air Act, the Air Pollution Control Act, and associated regulations, such as Title 25, Chapter 127, is also a critical component of the duties. Field inspections are conducted to assess the compliance status of permitted facilities from an air quality engineering perspective. Furthermore, inspections of facilities and projects are carried out both during construction and upon completion to ensure they align with the established air quality engineering design plans and specifications. The position also includes training responsibilities, which involve providing guidance and oversight on various permitting programs, including the Non-attainment New Source Review (NSR), Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD), and Title V.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.

  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

  • Salary: Selected candidates, who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $73,995.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years as an Air Quality Engineering Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or

  • Three years of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or

  • Four years of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or

  • Three years of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and a bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering.

  • Graduate study in chemical, mechanical, electrical or environmental engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for- year basis.
