DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position serves as a supervisor in the General Accounting and Defined Contribution Plans Division of the PA State Employees' Retirement System (SERS). The primary focus of this position is overseeing the non-investment-related accounting operations and financial reporting for the SERS Defined Benefit Plan. The general accounting group maintains internal controls and general ledgers; processes employer contributions; processes member contributions and benefit payments; processes and reconciles financial data; and collaborates with other internal and external groups when conducting operations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week, Monday through Friday.

  • Work hours: A work schedule beginning and ending between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., inclusive, with a half-hour or one-hour meal period will be considered, dependent on operational requirements. The requested work schedule may not end prior to 4:00 p.m.

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home part-time (hybrid telework schedule), depending on operational needs and progress in learning assigned tasks. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania; otherwise, you must work onsite at the work location specified in this job posting.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Accountant 2; or

  • Three years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, and graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting.

  • Four years of bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting may be substituted for college graduation. A Master's degree in accounting or a related field may be substituted for one year of general work experience.
