Communications Security (COMSEC) and Electrical/Electronics Technician

The Communications Security (COMSEC) and Electrical/Electronics Technician will be experienced with all aspects of COMSEC. In this role, you will apply electrical and engineering theory (related knowledge) to problems as part of an engineering staff. You will work with COMSEC equipment while adhering to processes and procedures associated with COMSEC.

This position will be located at Lexington Park MD supporting a NAVAIR project onboard NAS Patuxent River in support of PMA-268. The Unmanned Carrier Aviation program office (PMA-268) is responsible for the MQ-25 Stingray unmanned air system and the Unmanned Carrier Aviation Mission Control System (UMCS). The Stingray will be the Navy's first operational, carrier-based unmanned aircraft and will provide a critical aerial refueling capability to the carrier air wing.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Properly account for, store, issue, inventory, destroy (if necessary), and safeguard all COMSEC material provided to them.

  • Create and retain the required accounting documentation.

  • Ensure users have the proper clearance and are authorized to access COMSEC material.

  • Issue COMSEC material on local custody forms.

  • Provide written guidance concerning handling, accountability, and disposition of COMSEC material.

  • Conduct training to ensure that all personnel handling COMSEC material adhere to COMSEC procedures.

  • Incorporate emergency action and/or emergency destruction procedures for COMSEC material.

  • Expert on handling Data transfer devices for keying of all Cryptographic equipment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or requires an equivalent combination of related training and experience.

  • Familiarity with the COMSEC processes as described above is required.

  • Must be able to work independently.

  • Must be team oriented.

  • Must possess strong customer facing skills.

  • Must be flexible and can adapt to new information and programs.

  • Must have the ability to write in a clear, and concise manner, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must have the ability to research, review, and understand technical information.

  • Must have the ability to operate office equipment such as Personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine and other office equipment as required.

  • Must be able to install and remove cryptographic equipment.

  • Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements. Anticipated at Monday-Friday. Regular attendance of scheduled hours is critical. Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines.

  • Travel is (including airline travel) is required.

  • The applicant must be able to obtain/maintain a secret level security clearance. Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. This contract requires US citizenship.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Must be familiar with cryptographic tracking databases, ordering cryptographic keys, and key valid/changeover/expiration dates.

  • Must be able to work in a hangar environment, outdoors, in and around aircraft in all weather conditions.

  • Must be able to move under an aircraft to load cryptographic keys and reach cryptographic equipment for removal and replacement.

  • Must be able to work in loud environments such as aircraft line areas.

  • Must be able to work in a software and hardware lab environment.

  • Must be able to perform Government Furnished Property (GFP)/Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) duties as required.

  • Must be able to supports the PMA 268 (unmanned carrier aviation) engineering team as required. The COMSEC custodian/electrical technician will maintain compliance with all Navy, NAVAIR, PMA-268, and KBR training requirements to include cybersecurity and information assurance training.

  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to new information and programs.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be proficient using Microsoft suite of products.

  • Graduate of electronics/electrical training such as ET or AT A school.

  • Experience as a COMSEC custodian or account manager.

Scheduled Weekly Hours:

  • 40 hours/week

Compensation:

  • $57,420 - $86,130

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s location, knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience, contract affordability, and in consideration of internal parity.
