The role of the professional Registered Nurse (RN) reflects the values and priorities of the nursing profession. The RN is a proactive member of the multidisciplinary team that provides patient care. The RN recognizes that the role requires both clinical knowledge and the ability to provide comfort.

POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process and maintaining compliance with the Florida Nurse Practice Act. The provision of this care is to be conducted in a collaborative manner with all members of the healthcare team in order to deliver quality care and the best possible patient outcome.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential core function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, experience, and ability necessary to perform this job.

ESSENTIAL CORE FUNCTIONS OF THE REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL NURSE:

· Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or situation

· Analyzes the assessment data to determine the diagnosis or issues

· Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient and the situation

· Develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes

· Implements the identified plan

· Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice

· Attains knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice

· Exercises independent judgment in relation to patient care based on level of experience and knowledge, while working within an interdisciplinary team

· Evaluates own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines relevant to statutes, rules, and regulations

· Interacts with peers and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues

· Collaborates with the patient, family, and others in a professional ethical manner

· Integrates research findings into practice

· Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost and impact on practice in planning and delivering nursing care

· Follows established patient safety guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in harm

· Performs other duties as assigned within defined competencies this includes but is not limited to floating to various units based on business needs

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma from an accredited institution required.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Current FL RN license required or appropriate compact licensure. If compact license held in another state, active FL RN compact license required within 90 days of hire. Advanced Nurse Practitioner license acceptable · American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification required within 30 days*

  • Additional certifications as noted below and in unit-specific competencies:

HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital is a 238-bed acute care hospital. For 40 years, we have served Bay County and the surrounding communities. We are an accredited facility offering comprehensive care. This includes advanced cardiac assessment and treatment. We offer certified women's services. Our hospital has dedicated spaces for adult and pediatric emergency services. We are certified in Advanced Primary Stroke Care. Our hospital is accredited as a Comprehensive Breast Care Center. We are the area's only Accredited Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI and Resuscitation. Other services that we offer include orthopedic care and joint replacement, robotic surgery, cardiac, vascular, and interventional services. We are home to the only Pediatric ER in the community. We have the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in the region. Together, we continue to raise the bar in healthcare.
