This position is for our Vascular Surgery Clinic and will share time between the Emeryville and Palo Alto location (about half and half).

A Brief Overview

The Registered Vascular Sonographer Technologist (RVT) reports to the Supervisor or Manager and performs all required ultrasound and clinical evaluations at a technical level requiring limited supervision. The vascular technologist uses ultrasound as well as other diagnostic instruments to image and evaluate the conditions of the arteries and veins in the body

What you will do

  • Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations; performs the following procedures: cerebrovascular, peripheral vascular and abdominal duplex, segmental blood pressure and exercise testing, and physiology evaluations and other tests as determined by the Technical and Medical Directors of the vascular lab.

  • Prepares patients for examinations and explains procedures to patients; ensures safety, mental and physical comfort of the patient while in the technologist's care. Assesses the patient and correlate the clinical history with the test to be performed; consults supervisor when necessary to determine appropriate vascular lab procedure and consults with referring MD and/or patient chart regarding patient's history when necessary. Provides technical and nursing aid for surgical, biopsy, and aspiration procedures.

  • Recognizes the significance of all structures visualized on the monitor and is able to differentiate normal from abnormal and recognize artifacts; understands when to seek advice. Recognizes the limitations of electronic equipment. Follows protocols and is able to deviate from normal techniques when clinically necessary

Education Qualifications

  • Graduate from a diagnostic ultrasound training program (2-4 years)

Experience Qualifications

  • 1 to 2 years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience including internship

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to adapt to and deal with change and ambiguity

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with widely diverse groups, including individuals at all levels both within and outside the organization and gain their cooperation

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions

  • Ability to understand the physical and psychological needs of the patient

  • Ability to work effectively as a team player

  • Knowledge of cardiovascular principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment involved in the performance of all vascular sonography procedures

  • Skill: Cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images

Licenses and Certifications

  • RVT - Registered Vascular Technologist .

  • ARDMS - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonography .

  • BLS - Basic Life Support .

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $68.92 - $77.61 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
