Key job responsibilities
As an Applied Scientist on this team, you will:
Design, develop, and maintain scalable, Machine Learning models with automated training, validation, monitoring and reporting.
Work closely with other scientists and engineers to architect and develop new learning algorithms and prediction techniques
Collaborate with product managers and engineering teams to design and implement software solutions for Amazon problem
Provide technical and scientific guidance to junior team members
Contribute to the research community, by working with other scientists across Amazon
Publish papers at peer reviewed journals and conferences
A day in the life
This role combines science leadership, organizational ability, technical strength, product focus, and business understanding.
You'll be a lead scientist on the team tackling some of the hardest problems in mobile advertising; recommending the right app for users to download and the right offer for the users to avail off in mobile apps on their devices. This is especially challenging when accommodating the user's privacy preferences.
You will define a long-term science vision for our app advertising business, driven from our customers' needs, translating that direction into specific plans for research and applied scientists, as well as engineering and product teams.
About the team
App Advertising enables app developers/advertisers to leverage Amazon Ads for promoting their apps and drive user engagement. To do this, we are developing tools and integrations across the Amazon Ads stack. We are a hybrid science and engineering team based in Seattle, Palo Alto and New York.
This is a revenue generating program that spans across multiple teams/organizations providing you the opportunity to impact a growing business and potentially even the mobile app advertising industry.
Basic Qualifications
3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.
Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
