Job Summary

Perform diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of clinical practice. Work performed in accordance with physician orders. Defined duties are performed in neonatal, pediatric and adult patient populations. This is an entry level position.

Essential Functions

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

  • Administer aerosolized medication via Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing (IPV), Intermittent Aersol Therapy (HHN) Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI dry Powder Inhalers (DPI).

  • Administer medical gases.

  • Assist with routine trach care.

  • Assure correct set-up, safety and function of all equipment/supplies necessary in the provision of patient care.

  • Document results and findings in the patients' records.

  • Perform airway clearance maneuvers, Chest Psysiotherapy (CPT) Incentive Spirometry (IS) Cough Assist.

  • Perform bedside pulmonary mechanics.

  • Perform CPR and bag-mask ventilation.

  • Perform nasotracheal and artificial suctioning.

  • Provide education to patients, families, physicians, nursing and other members of the health care team.

  • Understand pharmacological indications, dosages and response to adverse drug reactions.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Completion of two (2) year AMA approved respiratory care program, -OR- satisfies experience requirements below.

Experience: None required if two (2) years graduate plus five (5) years clinical respiratory care for candidates who do not possess an AS degree.

License/Certification: Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.-AND-CA Respiratory Therapy License (RCP)-AND-Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for Healthcare Providers.-AND-Neonatal Resuscitation Prg Cer (NRP)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or licensure/certification.

  • Ability to adjust communications to fit the needs and level of understanding of the receiver.

  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.

  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology.

  • Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes.

  • Knowledge of the indications, contraindications, and hazards of continuous long-term or short term mechanical ventilation, various respiratory therapy techniques, and anatomy, physiology and pathology related to the respiratory system required.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $118,684.80 to $134,503.20
